Foolad Claims Bronze at FIVB Club World Championship

TEHRAN (Iran News)Star opposite Ali Hajipour was again the team’s top scorer, playing a major role in their victory with a 24-point performance, achieved with 21 kills and three blocks. Outside hitter Alireza Abdolhamidi and middle blocker and team captain Seyed Mousavi added 13 and 12, respectively.

Without star outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov, Lube saw most of their scoring load split by Croatian opposite Petar Đirlić, who registered 21 points (20 kills, one block), and world champion outside hitter Mattia Bottolo, who contributed another 17, with 16 kills and one ace.

In the gold medal match, Sada Cruzeiro defeated Trentino for the second time in four days, following up on a five-set pool play victory on Thursday with a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22) win on Sunday to lift the trophy for the fifth time after victories in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2021.

Iran wins 37 medals at 2019 Pyeongchang World Taekwondo Hanmadang

The 27th edition of biggest annual Korean martial arts event, the World Taekwondo Hanmadang was held in PyeongChang, South Korea in two section of male and female on 26 -31 July 2019.

Iran’s representatives won 16 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals in World Taekwondo Hanmadang.

Practitioners competed in 12 events and 59 fields for domestic participants and 54 for those from overseas. The festival brings together nearly five thousand people from 57 countries.

The world Taekwondo Hanmadang, which shows the essentials of the martial art such as breaking, self-defense and poomsae, is a contest held every year by Kukkiwon. It introduces the cultural superiority of Taekwondo and promotes the martial art as a valuable Korean culture.

Iranian freestylers win two bronze at Wrestling World Championships

Hassan Yazdani Charati and Parviz Hadi Basmanj from Iran won two bronze medals at the men’s senior freestyle Wrestling World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday.

Defending world and Olympic champion Yazdani claimed the bronze medal after beating Russian Dauren Kurugliev 11-5 in the 86kg.

The U.S.’s David Morris Taylor beat Turkey’s Fatih Erdin 12-2 in the final match.

Hadi also earned a bronze medal in the 125kg after defeating Russian Anzor Khizriev 11-2.

Geno Petriashvili from Georgia defeated Chinese Zhiwei Deng to claim the gold medal.

The competition is the first senior World Championships to use a ranking system to determine competitive seeds.

Previously athletes were put into brackets using a random draw, though the new system was announced at last year’s Championships in Paris.

Under the new system – set to be applied across all 30 weight categories at this year’s event – only wrestlers who finished within the top four of the pre-World Championships competition calendar are eligible to receive a seed.

The seed is non-transferable to another wrestler from the same National Federation, while if the seeded athlete does not enter their designated weight, then the seed moves to the next highest ranked wrestler.

Wrestlers may not carry their seed from one weight class to another.

The rankings on which the seeds are based, were determined by tallying points acquired at Continental Championships and several ranking series tournaments.
