TEHRAN (Iran News) Asked about a plan endorsed by Moscow, Baku and Ankara for the creation of the so-called Zangezur corridor that is designed to link the Republic of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan without Armenian checkpoints, Nasser Kanaani said at a press conference on Monday, “We openly express our opposition to any changes in the borders that would violate the political independence of countries and are also opposed to changes in international boundaries.”

Reaffirming Iran’s support for peace and stability in the South Caucasus region, he said Tehran welcomes the unblocking of routes in compliance with the sovereignty of the regional states.

He also voiced Iran’s support for the advancement of peace talks between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that Caucasus peace will be in the interests of all regional nations.

Warning about attempts by outsiders to foment instability in the Caucasus, Kanaani said Iran continues to strengthen mechanisms for regional cooperation on the basis of the 3+3 format, which includes Russia, Iran, Turkey and three South Caucasus nations.

Iranian officials have time and again expressed opposition to any change in the international boundaries or the geopolitics of the region.

Separatist groups agree to disarm and move away from Iran border: report

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Kurdish separatist groups have agreed with a proposal from the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq to put aside their arms and stay away from Iran’s border, according to Tasnim.

Citing a political source in Iraqi Kurdistan, Tasnim said the KRG and the separatist groups have reached an agreement regarding Iran based on which the groups will lay down their arms and move away from the border with Iran.

“The government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has practically started the measures to remove the Iranian opposition parties based in the Kurdistan Region in the border strip with Iran,” the source was quoted as saying on Saturday.

The source added, “The opposition parties (terrorist separatist groups) have agreed to move to the camps already established in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah provinces.”

The source continued, “It is never true that the opponents have refused to agree to the terms of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, and want to resort to military options.”

The source noted, “The opposition parties (terrorist separatists) have fully agreed with the actions of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.”

On March 19, Iran and Iraq inked a security agreement in Baghdad that includes coordination in protecting border security between the two countries.

Iran has repeatedly warned the local authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan that it will not tolerate the presence and activity of militant groups along its northwestern borders, threatening a decisive response if those areas become a hive of activities against the Islamic Republic.

Iran has set a deadline for the KRG and Iraq’s central government to tackle the issue of separatist groups. The deadline would end on September 19 and Iranian officials signaled that it won’t be extended.

“Iran’s stance is quite clear. According to the agreement reached with the Iraqi government, the final deadline for the disarmament of the terrorist and separatist forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan region ends on September 19 and that deadline will not be extended in any way,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said earlier this month.

IRGC Launches Attack on Terrorists along Northwestern Borders

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it has launched missile, drone, and artillery attacks on a series of locations near border regions in the country’s northwest that were harboring terrorists.

According to Tasnim, strongholds of anti-Revolution terrorist groups and their training centers were attacked during the past week in a major operation by the IRGC Ground Force.

The IRGC employed its missile, drone, and artillery units to attack the active centers of terrorists, and killed and injured scores of them, including ringleaders.

A large amount of ammunition belonging to the terrorists was also seized in the operation.

In July 2018, anti-revolutionary terrorists attacked a border post of the IRGC Ground Force’s Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base in Iran’s western province of Kurdistan, killing 11 forces of the base.

The IRGC is tasked with protecting the country’s northwestern and southeastern borders.

Iran to Return Abducted Border Guards: Commander

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The commander of the Iranian Border Police said the country continues vigorous efforts to ensure the release and return of Iranian border guards kidnapped at a border post and taken into Pakistan back in 2018.

“The security apparatuses and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) are working to secure their return,” Brigadier General Ahmadali Goodarzi told Tasnim during a visit to the northwestern city of Orumiyeh.

He also hailed all border guard forces across Iran for their hard work to secure the country’s borders.

On October 15, 2018, the so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group infiltrated Iran from the Pakistani side of the border and took hostage 14 border guards, local Basij forces, and IRGC members.

The IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base said at the time that the local Basij forces and the border regiment forces stationed at the border post in Mirjaveh region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan had been abducted after “acts of treason and collusion” involving an element or elements of the anti-Revolution groups who had infiltrated the country.

A number of the abductees have been released since then.

Iranian military forces along the southeastern border areas are frequently attacked by terrorist groups coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Tehran has asked the two neighbors to step up security at the common border to prevent terrorist attacks on Iranian forces.

Sartak-Pishta border crossing Iran, KRG reopened

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Sartak-Pishta border crossing between Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Islamic Republic of Iran was reopened on Monday after more than two-month hiatus due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Iraq reopened its 3rd border crossings with the Islamic Republic of Iran which had been closed for more than two months due to the pandemic, informed resources reported.

Transit at two sides of the border is underway through observing necessary health protocols and also corona terms and conditions naturally.

Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government also reopened its two border crossings with Iran on April 21, 28, 2020.

In addition to the aforementioned three border crossings, Iraq’s KRG has seven other border crossings with the Islamic Republic of Iran, a total of which were shut down due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Iran and Iraq.

Iran, Iraq Enjoy Safe Common Border

According To Iran News, The common borders between Iran and Iraq are among the world’s safest frontiers, commander of the Iranian Border Police said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a visit to the Chazzabeh border crossing in southwest of Iran, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei said the common border of Iran and Iraq are among the safest borders in the world.

He also noted that such high level of security results from the close coordination between the border guards of the two countries and the local residents of the border areas.

The commander then highlighted the close diplomatic relations between the security forces of Iran and Iraq at the border crossings, saying the border guards of the two neighbors hold regular meetings to enhance coordination for the missions and strengthen the spirit of amity.

Brigadier General Rezaei finally emphasized that the sanctions have not had any adverse effect on the security of the Iranian borders, saying, “There is no economic and trade sanctions along the Iranian and Iraqi borders, and the business people and travelers are easily handling trade exchanges and crossing the border from the two countries.”

89% rise in imports from Kermanshah borders

The Director General of Kermanshah Customs Administration Khalil Heydari revealed the considerable 89% rise in imports from provincial borders in the first four months of the current year (March 21-July 21).

About 6,558 tons of commodities worth $10,596,543, were imported into the western province of Kermanshah during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22), registering a 44% and 89% growth in tonnage and value respectively compared with last year’s corresponding period.

He pointed to the total products imported into Kermanshah province from 10 countries, saying “exporting 571 tons of commodities worth $3,279,248, China stands at first place importing products into the customs office of this province in the same period, followed by Italy and Turkey.”

Statistics show that 324 tons of products worth $2,130,311, were exported from Italy to the provincial customs office in the same period.

Moreover, 768 tons of products, valued at $1,419,509, were imported from neighboring Turkey into the provincial customs office in the same period.

Exports via Razavi Khorasan province’s border crossings rises by %7

TEHRAN– Provincial governor of Razavi Khorasan province announced %7 increase in the export volume via the province’s border crossings with neighboring countries during the first nine months of the Iranian year.

Ali Rasoulian, the Economic Deputy of Razavi Khorasan Provincial governor, told reporters on Monday “during the first nine months of this Iranian year (beginning on 21 March) $87.5 million worth of goods and non-oil products have been exported via the province border crossings.”

He added “this volume shows %7 increase in the volume of the export compared to the same period last year.”

Rasoulian pointed out that there are two border crossings of Dogharoon with Afghanistan and Bajgiran with Turkmenistan in the province.

The province’s deputy governor went on to add “most of the goods exported through Bajgiran included carpets, aluminum products, and goods and products exported via Dogharoon included fruits and vegetables, construction materials, food, containers, iron and chemicals.”

3rd Iran, Turkey border crossing runs in 24-hr

Turkish Minister of Customs and Trade Bülent Tüfenkci said that the 3rd border cross between Iran and Turkey will offer round-the-clock services.

Turkey is trying to activate three of its border crossings with Iran in 24 hours, he said, adding, “this move is done with the aim of facilitating border transit activities and promoting trade exchanges between the two countries.”

Presently, Gorbolag Border Crossing is offering round-the-clock services while Kapikio Border Crossing is witnessing transit of passengers and transport of cargo similarly, the minister opined.

This move was first implemented by the Turkish government, so that the two countries of Iran and Turkey called for offering round-the-clock services in two borders, he said, adding, “once Van Border Crossing offers round-the-clock services, trade exchanges between the two countries of Iran and Turkey will be more facilitated.”

In conclusion, Turkish Minister of Customs and Trade Bülent Tüfenkci said that Iranian side is constructing new roads for these border crossings.

Roads and Borders Turned Into Portraits

In an art exhibition held recently in Bandar-e-Anzali, a port city in Gilan Province, Hossein Aghaeipour, a young self-taught painter, displayed his creative ‘Map Art’ paintings.
In his innovative paintings, on show as ‘Another Look’, Aghaeipour extracted portraits from maps of various cities across the globe and painted them on canvas, Honaronline reported.
“City roads create unsought images that are visible only if seen from above. I first discover these lines and then paint them,” the artist wrote on his website.
By changing city maps into human portraits, he implies that common matters can be perceived differently if one tries to see them in another way.
“I want to invite the people to a challenge; a challenge of seeing differently,” he said. On choosing cities as the basis of his works, he says, “I brought the map lines to my canvas to give life to cities. I wanted to give them an identity different from the one they have acquired by bricks and stones.”
We all have drawn imaginative images in trees and shadows, all of which could have been an inspiration for artwork, he added. “But I think twisted and turning roads in cities have some more meaning to offer.”
He believes city roads are where “we pass our daily life”, and every day millions of positive or negative feelings are formed. “Roads are like veins to cities.”
So far the artist has made 25 paintings with his unique technique and has sketched 300 more. Some of the sketches are drawn based on maps of cities in Iran. His work of ‘Map Art’ is the first of its kind as no artist in the world has so far tried to paint faces based on borderlines and portray cities in a human form.
