Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei made the comments two days after five border guards lost their lives in battles with armed terrorists and anti-Islamic Revolution forces in Saravan County.

Rezaei gave a speech at the memorial service for the border guards in Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan-Baluchestan, in which he forewarned those who have been duped into joining the enemies that they “will definitely get a decisive and firm response wherever it is necessary.”

He said, “Police forces are more resolute today, and you will hear reports of the retaliation in the near future.”

The deputy police commander further stressed that such instances will not sever ties between Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, since the three countries have long-standing ties.

He stated, “Pakistan has sent a message, indicating it would deal firmly with the terrorist attack’s perpetrators and that it is the last message.”

In a telephone conversation with Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday, Major General Baqeri called on the Pakistani Army officials to take decisive action for the release of three Iranian border guards who have been held hostage by the so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group since October 2018.

The top Iranian general also stressed the need for the two Muslim neighbors to strengthen security measures along the common border to prevent the terrorist groups and the common enemies from upsetting security at the border.

Major General Baqeri then pointed to the growing trend in the brotherly ties between the armed forces of the two countries and voiced Iran’s preparedness to enhance “defense-economic cooperation” with Pakistan.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, for his part, gave a brief report on Pakistan’s measures to construct barriers along the common border with Iran.

He also called for closer military cooperation with Iran and the exchange of experts to ensure border security and prevent terrorist activities along the common borders.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, once again rejected reports on the incident claiming that the country’s border guards forced Afghan migrants to cross Harirud River.

“As earlier stated by various Iranian officials, the Islamic Republic strongly denies the reports that Iranian border guards have forced a number of Afghan citizens to cross Harirud River, causing an incident for them,” Seyed Abbas Mousavi said on Wednesday.

“Despite the fact that the issue has nothing to do with Iran, due to the request of Afghan officials, the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic sent an official note to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tehran on Wednesday, announcing the readiness of Tehran to work jointly with the Afghan side to investigate the allegations,” he added.

“This was done due to the brotherly ties based on the principles of goodwill and good neighborliness between the two countries,” Mousavi said.

He also stated that Iran considers its borders with Afghanistan as the borders of peace and friendship, highlighting its determination to continue the friendly and brotherly relations with Afghanistan based on mutual respect.

Afghan news media had reported that about 50 Afghan migrants crossing into Iran illegally had been beaten and thrown into a river. Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday said an inquiry had been launched.

In Similar remarks on Sunday, the spokesman expressed sympathy with the families of the victims, and said, “This incident has occurred on Afghan soil, and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Border Police has denied that any happening in relation to this has taken place on the soil of our country.”

Iran spends eight billion dollars on Afghan migrants every year in various sectors.

According to the latest official figures, 951,142 Afghan refugees reside in Iran. In addition to the refugees, there are around 2.5 million Afghan nationals living in Iran, inclusive of passport holders and undocumented Afghans.

The UN refugee agency has, on numerous occasions, praised Iran for hosting Afghan refugees for more than four decades.

Last night, the border guards of Sardasht engaged in clashes with a group of about 20 armed assailants who were entering the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the commander said.

He added that the gunmen fled the conflict to neighboring Iraq after their plot was foiled and they suffered losses.

Over the past years, Iranian security forces and border guards have engaged in clashes with terror groups, many of whom cross the country’s borders with Pakistan and Iraq to carry out attacks.

Last week, Iranian security forces disbanded a terrorist cell in the southeast of the country, seizing a considerable amount of weapons and munitions from the group.

The clash between security forces and terrorists took place near the border region of Saravan in Sistan-and-Baluchestan province.

Back in April, Iranian security forces also discovered and captured a large cache of explosives in Sistan-and-Baluchestan province.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said in January that Iranian security forces had dismantled a terrorist group and arrested its members in West Azarbaijan.

The terrorist group engaged in armed confrontation with Iranian security forces, during which they used a local woman as a human shield and killed three Iranian security forces, a statement by the ministry said.

One terrorist was killed and several others were injured during the operation. A number of their weapons and explosives as well as a notebook containing guidelines for creating unrest were seized, according to the statement.
