TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohsen Baharvand said Iran and France have finalized the date to read the black box of a Ukrainian plane that was mistakenly downed near Tehran.

“The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has done the necessary correspondence with the air accident investigation and analysis office of France, and agreements have almost been finalized,” Baharvand said on Sunday.

“If everything goes like this and no unexpected event comes up, the black box will be taken to France by an aviation team from our country, and work to read and extract information from the black box will get underway on July 20, 2020,” he said.

“A team of experts and technicians from the Islamic Republic of Iran will lead the research work and the reading of the information will be done under the guidance and supervision of the Iranian team,” he stated.

“Of course, other countries which are, one way or another, connected to this tragic event can send a representative to France as an observer,” the official went on to say.

The Kiev-bound UIA Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, killing all 176 people on board, mostly Iranian and Canadian citizens.

Iran said the plane was hit by an anti-aircraft missile due to human error.

Iran ‘likely’ to send Ukrainian plane black box to France

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran will “likely” send the black box from a Ukrainian airplane it mistakenly shot down to France, ISNA News Agency reported on Sunday.

The plane, designated Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752, was hit by missiles fired from an air defense system near Tehran on January 8. All 176 passengers on board were killed in the crash.

Iran said at the time the plane was mistaken for a missile as the country was in high alert, having fired retaliatory strikes at US targets in response to a US drone strike that assassinated Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

According to ISNA, the decision to send the box to another country, such as France, was the fault of Ukraine, as Iran had made an offer to Kiev regarding the box.

“Following the Ukrainian side’s delay in responding to Iran’s offer regarding the Ukrainian plane’s black box, the Iranian authorities have decided to send the black box to another country, probably France,” the ISNA report said.

The report did not elaborate on when Iran plans to hand the black box over.

In March, Iran agreed to send the black box from the downed jetliner to Ukraine for analysis.

Farhad Parvaresh, who heads Iran’s delegation at the UN’s Montreal-based International Civil Aviation Organization, said at the time that Iran had invited other interested countries to participate in reading the data, effectively opening the door to the United States, Ukraine, Canada and ICAO itself. Air crash investigations are usually left to ICAO’s 193 member states.

Iran had also made it clear that it would transfer the box to France if need be.

Under UN rules, Iran retains overall control of the investigation while the United States and Ukraine are fully accredited as the countries where the jet was, respectively, built and operated.

Iran to examine Ukrainian airliner black boxes

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran is trying to analyze the black boxes of a Ukrainian airliner that was downed accidentally this month, the Civil Aviation Organization said Sunday.

“We are trying to read the Ukrainian airliner black boxes here in Iran. Otherwise, our options are Ukraine and France, but no decision has been taken so far to send them to another country,” Hassan Rezaeifar, a director in charge of accident investigations at Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, told IRNA.

Tasnim News Agency on Saturday quoted Rezaeifar as saying that the black boxes were being sent to Ukraine.

Ukraine has previously said it expected Iran to hand over the black boxes to Ukraine.

Canada and other nations who lost nationals have been calling on Iran for a thorough investigation and have said the flight data and voice recorders should be analyzed abroad.

All 176 onboard the Ukraine International Airlines flight from Tehran to Kyiv were killed when the Boeing 737-800 was shot down mistakenly on Jan. 8, at a time when Iran was on high alert for a US attack.

Most of those on board were Iranians or dual nationals. Canada had 57 citizens on board. Nine of the Ukrainian citizens were crew members.

Ukrainians’ bodies return home

The bodies of the 11 Ukrainian citizens onboard the jetliner were brought back to Ukraine on Sunday.

An honor guard solemnly carried the coffins into the terminal of Kyiv’s Boryspil Airport.

With President Volodymyr Zelenskiy looking on, coffins draped in the Ukrainian flag were carried one by one from a Ukrainian military plane to a waiting hearse at the airport.

Soldiers held up flags to represent the different nationalities of those who died.

Relatives came to the airport carrying bunches of flowers. Airline staff, some in tears, were waiting on the tarmac.

Ukraine asks Iran to deliver plane black boxes

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ukraine prosecutor’s office said that had asked Iran to provide Kyiv with the flight recorders and black boxes from the plane which was unintentionally shot down near Tehran last week.

“The Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine appealed to the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran with a request for legal assistance related to the transfer of flight recorders or black boxes to the Ukrainian law enforcers from the Boeing 737 plane of Ukraine International Airlines, which operated Tehran-Kyiv flight PS752 and was shot down by Iranian military,” Sputnik quoted the office as saying in a Telegram channel.

The office said that Ukraine is taking every conceivable measure to ensure the proper decryption of the flight recorders and preserve evidence in the investigation of the circumstances of the crash.

Last week, a Boeing 737-800 belonging to Ukraine International Airlines was downed by the Iranian military soon after departing from Tehran’s major international airport at 06:12 local time (02:42 GMT). The incident occurred amid the heightened tensions between Iran and the US and the Iranian defense force’s full alert.

Iranian officials have expressed regret for the accident, and government spokesman Ali Rabiei announced on Monday that President Hassan Rouhani is following up on a number of issues related to the crash.

ATR-72 black box to be sent to France

The black box of an Iranian ATR passenger plane that crashed on 18 Feb., killing all 65 on board, will be sent to France to be decrypted, head of Parl. Civil Affairs Commission said Tuesday.

Head of Parliament’s Civil Affairs Commission, Mohammad Reza Rezaei-Kouchi, told reporters on Tuesday that the black box belonging to the Iran Aseman Airlines Flight 3704 that crashed into Mount Dena on Feb. 18, will be sent to France by Thursday to be decrypted.

He said the decision was due to the fact that Iran did not have the necessary tools and equipment to decrypt the black box.

According to him, a team from Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization will go to France to be present during the decryption of the flight recorder.

“We will try to have a number of MPs from the Civil Affairs Commission to accompany the team,” he added.

Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop bound from Tehran to Yasuj crashed into Mount Dena in the Zagros Mountains on 18 February 2018, killing all 59 passengers and six crew members on board. The black box containing crucial flight data was found by research teams on Mount Dena on March 3.

Black box from Tehran-Yasuj crashed plane retrieved

Iranian officials announced on Saturday that the flight recorder, also known as the black box from Tehran-Yasuj passenger plane, which crashed on Feb. 18, was found by the searchers.

Fourteen days after Tehran-Yasuj flight crashed in the mountains within 14 miles of destination landing port, the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, known as the blackbox, from the flight 3704 was found on Saturday.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

The passenger plane of Aseman Airlines which had 65 on board was lost on radar tracks 55 minutes after it took off Tehran Mehrabad Airport.

A number of 26 rescue teams along with 106 climbers were dispatched to the estimated area of the accident, while the bad weather hampered the search efforts in the mountainous region.

The Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, went down on February 18 in a foggy weather, crashing into Mount Dena in southern Iran.

More Bodies, Black Box Recovered from Burning Iranian Oil Tanker: Report

The four members of the salvage team wore respirators to board the “Sanchi”, where they found the two bodies on the deck, state news agency Xinhua reported.

They tried to get to the living quarters but were driven back by temperatures on the burning ship of around 89 Celsius (192 Fahrenheit).

The body of a mariner suspected to be from the ship was recovered on Monday and sent to Shanghai for identification. The rest of the crew, which included 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis, remains missing.

The salvage team recovered the voyage data recorder, or “black box” from the bridge, before leaving the vessel less than half an hour after boarding because the wind had shifted and “thick toxic smoke” had complicated the operation, according to the report.

Iran’s Army Spokesman Brigadier General Shahin Taqikhani said a special operations team from the Iranian Navy, including the Green Beret commandos, have been stationed at the Shanghai port and are waiting for the Chinese army’s equipment to participate in a heliborne operation to save possible survivors of the incident.

Iranian oil tanker ‘Sanchi’ which collided with a Chinese freight ship in the East China Sea on January 6 is still on fire after seven days.
