TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain will be responsible for any “consequences” resulting from their normalization of relations with Israel.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Rouhani said that Israel is “committing more crimes in Palestine every day,” AFP reported.

“Some of the region’s countries, their people, are pious Muslims but their rulers neither understand religion nor [their] debt … to the nation of Palestine, to their brothers speaking their language,” he said in televised remarks.

“How could you reach out your hands to Israel? And then you want to give them bases in the region? All the severe consequences that would arise from this are on you.”

The remarks came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the foreign ministers of the UAE and Bahrain signed agreements establishing full diplomatic ties at a ceremony at the White House.

US President Donald Trump said similar Washington-brokered deals were close between Israel and several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Iran had previously warned Bahrain that its deal made it a partner to Israel’s “crimes” and slammed the UAE for “betraying” the Muslim world.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Bahraini opposition groups rejected a decision by the Persian Gulf state to normalize relations with Israel, with a leading cleric calling on the region’s people to resist.

Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s Shiite majority, said he was against normalization between Arab countries and Israel, in a statement published by Bahraini opposition party al-Wefaq, Reuters reported.

The accords between Israel and the UAE last month, and between Israel and Bahrain on Friday, go against the will of the people, he said.

“There is a great divergence between the rulers and the ruled in thought, mind, aims and interests. Governments are experiencing a psychological defeat and want to impose it on the people, and the people have to resist this defeat,” Qassim said.

A joint statement by a group of Bahraini political and civil society associations, including the Bahrain Bar Association, on Sunday also stood against the deal.

“What results from normalization will not enjoy popular backing, in line with what generations of Bahrainis have been brought up on in terms of adherence to the Palestinian cause,” the statement said.

The head of Bahrain’s highest court ordered judiciary employees not to criticize government policy or express opinions harming national unity, al-Bilad newspaper reported on Sunday.

Bahrainis have previously criticized their government’s engagements with Israel, including last June’s conference in Manama to launch a US-led $50 billion economic formula for Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Parliament last April joined social media calls to stop Israeli business and government officials attending an international entrepreneurship conference. The delegation did not attend.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran said Saturday that Bahrain is now an accomplice to the crimes of Israel after the two announced a deal to normalize relations.

“The rulers of Bahrain will from now on be partners to the crimes of the Zionist regime as a constant threat to the security of the region and the world of Islam,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry condemned Israel’s “decades of violence, slaughter, war, terror and bloodshed in oppressed Palestine and the region”.

It said that through this “shameful and humiliating” deal, Bahrain has “scarified the Palestinian cause on the altar of American elections”.

“The oppressed and right-seeking people of Palestine and the freedom-seeking Muslims of the world, without doubt, will never accept the normalization of relations with the usurping and lawless Israeli regime, and this shameful act will remain in the historical memory of the oppressed and downtrodden Palestinian nation and the world’s freedom-seeking nations,” it said.

“The result will undoubtedly be growing anger and the lasting hatred of the oppressed people of Palestine, Muslims and the free nations of the world”.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry further warned against any act by Israel meant to create insecurity in the Persian Gulf region, saying Bahrain and its allied governments bear responsibility for its consequences.

The Friday announcement by US President Donald Trump made Bahrain the second Arab country in a month, after the United Arab Emirates, to normalize ties with Israel under US sponsorship.

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said earlier this month that the UAE had “betrayed” the Muslim world and that he hoped they would “soon wake up and compensate for what they have done.”

Calling it a “truly historic day,” Trump said that Israel and Bahrain were establishing full diplomatic and commercial relations.

Bahrain has become the fourth Arab country to reach an agreement with Israel, which exchanged embassies with Egypt and Jordan decades ago.

Bahrain said in a joint statement it had agreed to normalize the deal with Israel at a ceremony Tuesday in the White House, where the United Arab Emirates will also sign off on its own thaw with Israel announced in mid-August.

Bahrainis opposed to the agreement vented their frustration on social media, using the hashtags “Bahrainis against normalization” and “normalization is betrayal”.

“A black day in the history of Bahrain,” wrote former lawmaker Ali al-Aswad.

Turkey also condemned the deal, saying it undermined the Palestinian cause.

“The step will be a fresh blow to efforts to defend the Palestinian cause and will further embolden Israel to continue its illegal practices toward Palestine and its attempts to make the occupation of Palestinian territories permanent,” it said.

The joint statement said Bahrain’s King Hamad, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump had spoken hours before announcing the new deal.

The UAE sent congratulations to Bahrain and Israel.

The Palestinians, who see Arab support as crucial to their power in resisting Israeli occupation, also condemned the Israel-Bahrain deal.

The agreement was “a stab in the back of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people,” said Ahmad Majdalani, the social affairs minister in the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority.

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, said it was an “aggression” that dealt “serious prejudice” to the Palestinian cause.

Palestinians fear the moves by Bahrain and the UAE will weaken a longstanding pan-Arab position that calls for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory and acceptance of Palestinian statehood.

AFP, Reuters and Press TV contributed to this story.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, strongly condemned the participation of a senior Israeli rabbi at a so-called religious event in the Persian Gulf kingdom, as a part of normalization ties with Israel.

Al-Wefaq said in a statement released on Tuesday that the invitation of Jerusalem (al-Quds) Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar to a “mock event” hosted by the Bahraini regime substantiates the aggressive and provocative stance that Manama authorities have adopted vis-a-vis the people of Bahrain besides Arab and Muslim nations.

“The entire Bahraini nation from all strata of the society is opposed to normalization (of diplomatic relations with the Israeli regime) and such cheap propaganda programs. These steps are only favored by the ruling regime, which has not been appointed by popular vote and rules the country with an iron fist. It, therefore, implements provocative individual policies at different levels,” the statement read, according to Press TV.

Al-Wefaq then called on the Manama regime to cease its acts of provocations and treacherous normalization projects since they do not legitimize and decriminalize the ugly dictatorship in Bahrain.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the Al Khalifa regime’s talk of tolerance and coexistence projects is a flat-out lie given the realities on the ground.

On Monday, Amar concluded his visit to Bahrain, where he attended a conference of religious leaders at the invitation of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

During his visit, which was organized by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, the senior Israeli rabbi met with the king and religious figures from several other Arab countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.

“Middle East nations want peace with Israel, the leadership should promote that without fear,” Amar said during his stay, expressing hope that in the future, such visits would not require special preparation.
