TEHRAN (Iran News) –Trump arrived at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to a rapturous reception on Monday, two days after he was struck in the ear by a would-be assassin’s bullet during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Republican delegates stood and cheered as Trump, wearing a thick bandage over his right ear, entered the stadium.

Trump, who appeared visibly moved, did not address the convention, but smiled and waved to the crowd as supporters chanted “Fight! Fight! Fight” and pumped their fists – a reference to the former president’s defiant reaction in the moments after he was shot, Al Jazeera reported.

After surveying the crowd, Trump took a seat in a VIP box with some of his children and his newly announced vice presidential running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

Multiple speakers addressed Saturday’s attack on Trump, who has credited God with saving his life, some of them invoking religious imagery.

Trump is due to formally accept the Republican nomination on Thursday, setting up a rerun of the 2020 contest against Democratic President Joe Biden in November.

Trump has signaled that unity will be a key theme of the four-day event, saying in a newspaper interview on Sunday that he would deliver a “whole different speech” than the one he had originally planned.

Trump is already leading Biden in most opinion polls, both nationwide and in battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

An average of polls collated by the 538 website shows Trump ahead by 2.2 percent nationally.

Trump’s lead has grown by 2 percentage points since a faltering debate performance by Biden last month that saw the 81-year-old Democrat trip over his words and lose his train of thought.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says a humiliating withdrawal from the region is the first price that the U.S. will have to pay for its assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

IRGC spokesman Ramezan Sharif said Sunday the United States must leave other regional countries following its ignominious pullout from Afghanistan.

“The first recompense that the Americans must pay for the assassination of Martyr Soleimani is to leave the region with humiliation,” he said in the northwestern city of Urmia on Sunday.

“Just as the Americans left Afghanistan with humiliation, they must leave other regional countries,” he added.

The IRGC spokesman also said despite having less personnel and equipment, General Soleimani managed to defeat terrorists, who were armed to the teeth in Syria and Iraq.

“Long before the complete defeat of Daesh and U.S. allies in the region, Haj Qassem had promised to defeat them. This was achieved thanks to his command and knowledge of the enemy front and the strength of the resistance front.”

Gen. Qa’ani recalled recent remarks by former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani who said the Americans had betrayed him. Sharif urged Arab leaders in the region not to rely on the US to avoid a similar fate.

In Tehran, IRGC Quds Force chief General Ismail Qa’ani said Gen. Soleimani reconciled the battlefield and diplomacy.

Addressing a ceremony at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies, he said one of General Soleimani’s initiatives was to establish interaction and synergy between the diplomatic and military corps in order to better confront the enemies.

“Martyr Soleimani established a very good link between the battlefield and diplomacy and was one of the trailblazers and advocates of this logic,” Qa’ani said, adding his idea has been adopted by other countries.

The Quds Force chief also described Tehran as “the summit of resistance, the Islamic Revolution and the convergence among different sectors in Islam”.

“This is the center of proximity and people like Martyr Soleimani were at the forefront of creating unity and convergence,” he added.

General Soleimani was assassinated along with his Iraqi trenchmate Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, in a US drone strike ordered by ex-president Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Judiciary Chief Hojjatoleslam Seyed Ebrahim Raisi says U.S. President Donald Trump will ultimately have to pay for ordering the assassination of top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.
“Trump would have to pay back, whatever his position,” Raisi told Lebanon’s al-Manar television network Sunday night. The chief justice was giving the interview on the occasion of the first anniversary of General Soleimani’s assassination in Baghdad.
“Whether he heads the U.S. administration or not, Trump should face retribution for the atrocity he has perpetrated,” he added.
The former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and his companions, including top Iraqi counter-terrorism official Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, was assassinated in a U.S. drone strike while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.
Raisi called the assassination an example of “state terrorism” that took place in a third country, while General Soleimani was on an official visit at the invitation of Iraq’s prime minister.
“This is definitely an atrocity that does not reconcile with any of the international laws and regulations and humanitarian principles, and whose perpetrators are prosecutable,” Raisi said.
He said all those who assisted the US president in committing the assassination or were accomplices in the targeted killing have been identified, pledging that the Islamic Republic would not give up its efforts to prosecute those who ordered, perpetrated, and abetted the assassination.
Tehran is in possession of “significant evidence” related to the assassination, the chief justice noted. It is keeping up its efforts towards prosecution of the culprits through a special tribunal at home, in cooperation with Baghdad, and on the international arena, including through international legal channels and the United Nations, he added.
“If the evidence is examined independently and on the basis of international law and human rights, our efforts will yield result,” he said.
However, those behind the assassination should primarily be convicted in the international public opinion and conscience, Raisi noted.
The Judiciary chief also pointed to the late November assassination of senior Iranian nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Tehran. The Islamic Republic considers the Israeli regime to be the prime suspect in the assassination.

The Islamic Republic, Raeisi said, will not rest until it also takes revenge for Fakhrizadeh’s assassination. “Iran has the upper hand because it is up to the country to pick the manner, time, and weapon it chooses to exact the revenge.”
Finally, the chief justice predicted that fallout from the assassinations would not favor either the United States or the Israeli regime because neither General Soleimani’s assassination managed to weaken the regional resistance axis and pursuit of his struggle, nor Fakhrizadeh’s targeted killing stamped out
advancement of Iran’s nuclear energy program.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed the allegation raised by an American magazine that Tehran is weighing an assassination attempt against the US ambassador to South Africa in revenge for the assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani.

In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Ministry spokesman dismissed the anti-Iran accusation leveled in a “custom-ordered, biased and purposeful” report published in an American media outlet, which he said has referred to remarks from a purportedly US government official in an attempt to make it look real.

“We advise the American officials to stop resorting to hackneyed and worn-out methods for anti-Iran propaganda in the international arena,” Saeed Khatibzadeh added.

“As a responsible member of the international community, the Islamic Republic of Iran has proved its constant commitment to the international diplomatic principles and norms. Conversely, this is the United States and the incumbent regime at the White House that has ignored the basic diplomatic principles and has become a rogue regime in the international arena, particularly in recent years, with numerous measures out of line with internationally-accepted methods and norms, including masterminding and implementing tens of plots for assassination and military and intelligence interference, withdrawal from many international agreements, violating the territorial integrity of nations, and the cowardly assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, the honorable commander of the fight against terrorism,” the spokesman said.

Khatibzadeh denounced the baseless allegations, such as the recent anti-Iranian report in the US media, as part of the “Trump administration’s counter-intelligence campaign against Iran”, adding, “It was predictable that the United States regime would resort to anti-Iranian accusations and falsification ahead of the US presidential election, coupled with that (US) regime’s pressures to abuse the United Nations Security Council’s mechanisms with the purpose of intensifying pressure on the people of Iran.

“However, such measures and news fabrication that would possibly continue in future will undoubtedly get nowhere and will add to the long list of Washington’s continuous defeats in the face of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“As announced repeatedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran will press on with international legal action at all levels in connection with the criminal and cowardly assassination of General Soleimani, and will neither forgive nor forget the terrorist action.”

His comments came after American magazine Politico cited the US government officials as alleging that Iran is weighing an assassination attempt against the American ambassador to South Africa to avenge the assassination of Lt. General Qassem Soleimani.

The top Iranian general was assassinated in a US airstrike near Baghdad airport on January 3.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The son of US District Court Judge Esther Salas was fatally shot and her husband critically wounded when a gunman dressed as a FedEx driver entered her home near North Brunswick, NJ, Sunday afternoon, according to local media.

Salas herself was reportedly unharmed in the attack, the New Jersey Globe reports. Daniel Anderl, Salas’ 20-year-old son, was killed. Her husband, Mark Anderl, a criminal defense attorney, and former assistant Essex County prosecutor, reportedly underwent surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick and is listed in critical but stable condition.

The FBI in Newark tweeted that it was “investigating a shooting that occurred at the home of Judge Ester Salas” and that the bureau was “looking for one suspect.”

A New Brunswick Police dispatcher told NPR that he could not confirm any details of the incident, but confirmed an ongoing investigation.

Salas, the first Latina to serve as a federal district judge in New Jersey, was nominated to her current position in 2010 by President Barack Obama.

The Globe said it was not immediately clear whether Salas, who it said had received threats in the past, was the target of the shooting. She has presided over high-profile cases, including the 2013 fraud trial of The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Joe and Teresa Giudice.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted late Sunday: “Judge Salas and her family are in our thoughts at this time as they cope with this senseless act.”

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ, said: “I know Judge Salas and her husband well, and was proud to recommend her to President Obama for nomination to NJ’s federal bench.”

“My prayers are with Judge Salas and her family, and that those responsible for this horrendous act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” Menendez was quoted by the Globe as saying.
