]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran matches against Hong Kong and Cambodia at the 2022 World Cup qualifiers have been postponed to June. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has rescheduled the matches due to coronavirus concerns but has yet to release an official statement on the status of the games.

“We are waiting for AFC’s final decision about the competition. Then, we will decide about friendly games as part of our preparation for the remaining matches,” Skocic said.

The Croat and Iran coaching staff are attending the league competition.

“We’re watching all the matches to find the best possible solution for our team. We work hard to prepare Iran national team for the qualifiers,” he stated.

The four remaining matches will be held in a centralized venue. Iran has offered the Asian Football Confederation to host the matches.

“It will work out in our favor to host the matches but it doesn’t matter to us to play everywhere else,” Skocic concluded.

Iran sit third in Group C behind Iraq and Bahrain.

]]> The 29th Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress concluded on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur. AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain) re-elected unopposed for a second four-year term (2019-2023).

Other elected vice presidents of the AFC include Saoud A. Aziz M A Al-Mohannadi (Qatar) from West Zone, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat (Pakistan) from South Zone, Zaw Zaw (Myanmar) from ASEAN Zone, and Ganbaatar Amgalanbaatar (Mongolia) from East Zone.

Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, the president of Asian Football Confederation, presented ‘AFC Referees Special Award’ of 2018 to world-class Iranian referees.

In a ceremony held on Friday on the sideline of AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the AFC chief presented Alireza Faghani, Reza Sokhandan, and Mohammadreza Mansouri with their ‘AFC Referees Special Award’.

Iranian referees were absent at the main ceremony which was held on November 28, 2018, in Muscat, Oman.

The Iranian trio delivered a superb performance in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, officiating four games including the third-place playoff between Belgium and England.
