Iran handed win over Kazakhstan at 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualification

TEHRAN (Iran News) The representative of FIBA announced on Saturday that the meeting between the Kazakhstan national team and Iran in the second window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers resulted in a technical loss for Kazakhstan due to their absence.

Kazakhstan was scheduled to play Iran at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran, but did not travel to participate in the match.

As a result, the Iranian team currently leads the standings with six points.

Iran, coached by Sotiris Manolopoulos, is set to face Qatar on November 25 in Doha.

The 2025 FIBA Asia Cup will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17.

Deadline for Asian Cup 2027 hosting extended over coronavirus outbreak

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) extended the deadline for preliminary bids for the 2027 Asian Cup on Thursday after the coronavirus pandemic caused major problems for football administrations.

Expressions of interest will now be accepted until June 30, three months after the original deadline of March 31, the AFC said in a statement, AFP reported.

“The decision was taken in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic to allow member associations, many of whom have been affected by the global outbreak, sufficient time to meet their internal processes and timelines,” it said.

China will host the next Asian Cup in 2023 but Saudi Arabia, which has a growing portfolio of large-scale sports events, is the only country so far to throw its hat in the ring for 2027.

Qualifying for the 2023 Asian Cup, like most other football worldwide, has been put on hold as countries batten down to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Qatar, hosts of the next World Cup in 2022, won the 2019 Asian Cup where the tournament expanded from 16 to 24 teams.

Iranian archers bag 4 medals at 2018 Asia Cup

Iranian archers’ performance at Stage 3 of 2018 Asia Cup resulted in four medals, including three silver and one bronze.

The competition which is a World Ranking Event kicked off on July 9 in Taipei and will wrap up on July 12.

In men’s individual compound section on Tuesday, Esmaeil Ebadi defeated opponents from Vietnam and India to reach the final but lost the game to South Korean archer and received silver medal.

Iran men’s compound team consisting of Esmaeil Ebadi, Nima Mahboubi and Amir Kazempour reached the final on Tuesday but again, defeated by South Korean rivals and bagged the silver.

In women’s compound section, Iran’s team consisting of Raheleh Farsi, Minou Abedi and Parisa Baratchi managed to snatch the silver medal of the competitions.

Also, Esmaeil Ebadi and Minou Abedi clinched a bronze medal for Iran in compound mixed team.
