TEHRAN (Iran News) – Artists from Iran, Turkey, Nigeria, Mexico join at “Polychromatic”. Five artists from Iran, Turkey, Nigeria and Mexico will showcase their latest works in an exhibition entitled “Polychromatic” at the Daniel Raphael Gallery in London next week.

Curated by Tima Jam, the month-long exhibition opens on July 1 exhibiting works by Salman Khoshru and Milad Musavi from Iran, Mustafa Horasan from Turkey, Olamide Ogunade Olisco from Nigeria and Horacio Quiroz from Mexico.

In an Instagram post, the gallery said, “Each artist explores notions of identity and the self through their own inventive use of color.

“The concept of identity and perception of the self is perhaps now more pertinent than ever.

“Throughout art history, color has been used in artworks to help create a sense of identity, by conveying intangible concepts such as emotions, dreams and mental states.

“Drawing on the theoretical framework of surrealism and seminal psychoanalytic studies, this exhibition aims to engage viewers with the subconscious perceptions of the self through artworks that utilize color to reveal emotion and expressivity.”

In his collection of deformed portraits, Khoshru has featured very emotional expressions, while Musavi mixes some media such as cinema and animation to showcase the subject of identity in his artworks.

Horasan’s artworks provide a deep insight into the issues concerning capitalism, social media and global economic inequality.

The artworks by Ogunade Olisco and Quiroz also represent the concept of indemnity in Africa and Latin America.

All the artists have organized many exhibitions in their homelands and prestigious art centers across the world.

Founded in 2016 by Daniel Levy, the Daniel Raphael Gallery is dedicated to emerging contemporary art.

By its exhibitions, the gallery intends to be interactive, thought-provoking and original.

The gallery has said that it aims to act as a platform for an international range of emerging and mid-career artists to establish themselves in the art world.

An exhibition dubbed ‘Immorality’ has recently opened at the art gallery of Istanbul’ Adahan Hotel, Turkish Daily Sabah reported on Monday.

The exhibition is organized through the efforts by Iranian artist and curator Tima Jam in cooperation with the Turkish Contemporary and Modern Art, and Blue Rhino Art.

Jam told Daily Sabah that she and other Iranian artists as well as their Turkish counterparts have organized the exhibition to express cultural union and solidarity.

According to Jam, the exhibition features the works of 11 Turkish and 11 Iranian artists.

She also said that ten Iranian artists continue their works in Iran while only one of them lives in Turkey.

Saying that the theme of the exhibition is ‘immortality,’ she noted that the artworks were chosen based on the exhibition’s theme and added that some of the artists produced new works for this exhibition.

“This exhibition tells the story of continuous rejuvenation, reincarnation and lasting existence of nature. It also reflects the continuous cycle of pieces which are stable and unchangeable,” Jam explained to Daily Sabah.

“Immortality” features artworks by Iranian artists Afshin Hosseinzadeh, Ali Motamadian, Dariush Hosseini, Fatemeh Divandari, Hamid Asadi, Morteza Khosvari, Navid Zafaralizade, Reza Hosseini, Saeed Asaidi and Saghar Daeiri and the works of their Turkish fellow artists Barış Sarıbaş, Dilara Matarcı, Erhan Özışıklı, Ferhat Salman, Gökhan Deniz, Görkem Usta, Gülveli Kaya, Özge Enginoz, Seydi Murat Koç, Daily Sabah’s report concluded.

The artwork that measures 10×1.5 meters has been created during a workshop organized over the past week by 15 artists, including Zahra Dadvar, Behnam Bakhshi, Azin Rostami and Mohammad Foruhideh, the director of the workshop, Azita Safavi told the Persian service of Honaronline on Sunday.

She said that the central themes of the paintings are peace and friendship, and the group has tried to acquaint the public with art by this workshop.

Hossein Tadi, a member of the group, praised the decision to organize the workshop and said, “We have lived in a country that has tasted war, therefore working on a painting with the theme of peace is very interesting for the artists.”

He said that many ordinary people also attended the workshop, and their presence was really inspiring for the group of artists.

“We used the images of some of the people in creating the artwork,” he added.

The paintings will be on display for four days at the museum, which is home to works by the distinguished Iranian sculptor and painter Ali-Akbar Sanati.

Speaking to Mehr News correspondent on Sunday following speculations about the resemblance of his poster for ‘Boarding Pass’ – a 2017 Iranian drama directed by Mehdi Rahmani – to an American Sci-Fi film ‘Flatliners’ by Niels Arden Oplev, Taha Zaker said he would soon file a complaint against Sony Pictures for plagiarizing his poster design.

“I designed the poster for ‘Boarding Pass’ back in 2016 before the 35th edition of Fajr Film Festival went underway, but the film was not accepted into the screening program of the festival so the poster did not get a chance to be unveiled at the time,” Zaker explained.

“Ultimately, the poster was sent to Berlin, Cannes and Venice film festivals in the form of a DVD cover. The film featuring my poster took part in Cannes film market and was displayed to the public then,” he added.

“On 13 June 2017, the poster and trailer for ‘Flatliners’ were unveiled, which was a few months after the participation of ‘Boarding Pass’ in Cannes film market,” Zaker said.

We have all the necessary documents and proof about the exact date of designing and unveiling the poster, as well as the date of its submission to the Berlin film festival, he added.

Zaker noted that the reason he had decided to look up the Flatliners’ poster was the accusations he received about his own poster being a copy of the American film; “I found it very interesting that the posters were very similar in terms of form and theme, but the artist has gone about the design differently,” he added.

“Quite by accident I noticed that ‘Flatliners’ has several posters which bear an uncanny resemblance to all the posters for ‘Boarding Pass’,” he said. “While it is possible that two people across the world would simultaneously have the same idea for a design, it becomes quite suspicious when two posters for the same film look like a copy.”

He went on to note that he has consulted with an Iranian lawyer about the case, adding “if we can prove that the similarity between the two posters is something more than a coincidence, I will file a complaint against Sony Pictures.”

“Since these companies are under copyright protection, we can actually pursue the case, provided that the resemblance between the two posters are confirmed by relevant experts in the US,” he added.
