Esteghlal Negotiating to Get Stramaccioni as Head Coach, Again

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Persian Gulf Pro League runner-up Esteghlal has made a new attempt to lure back former Italian manager Andrea Stramaccioni, according to the Italian website gianlucadimarzio.com.

Stramaccioni, 44, stepped down from his role as the Blues head coach last December – after six months into his job – over a financial dispute with the club.

The Italian website said that Esteghlal CEO Ahmad Sa’adatmand traveled to Rome last week to offer a new one-year contract to the ex-Inter manager.

Stramaccioni, the website wrote, is now taking a few days before replying to the Iranian club’s offer.

The news of Esteghlal negotiating with Stramaccioni led to a rollercoaster of events for the Tehran giant, which will have to play Tractor in the Hazfi Cup final on Thursday.

Blues’ manager Farhad Majidi, who replaced the Italian last January, resigned via an Instagram post after his team beat archrival Persepolis in the penalty shootouts in the Hazfi Cup semifinals last Wednesday, slamming the club’s decision to negotiate with Stramaccioni on the eve of the Tehran derby.

Majidi, however, overturned his decision on Friday, insisting Thursday’s final will be his last game as Esteghlal’s boss.

Iran Football Federation last week had banned all Iranian clubs from acquiring new foreign players and coaches.

Andrea Stramaccioni Officially Leaves Esteghlal

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Esteghlal football club officially announced that Andrea Stramaccioni has parted ways with Esteghlal FC.

The Italian coach, Andrea Stramaccioni, left Esteghlal on December 8 after the Iranian team failed to transfer his salary due to the USA sanctions.

While the Italian coach received part of his unpaid salary after the representative of an Iranian bank gave him a check at Iran’s Embassy in Rome, he refused to return to Iran to lead Esteghlal.

Esteghlal football club made an announcement on Thursday, saying it no longer wants to work with him since the team should be prepared for the AFC Champions League, the Iran Professional League, and Hazfi Cup as soon as possible.

Ex-Esteghlal striker Farhad Majidi is an option to replace Stramaccioni.

Fathollahzadeh Sends Resignation from Esteghlal Board of Directors

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ali Fathollahzadeh sent his resignation from Esteghlal board of directors after serving just one week in the post.

Fathollahzadeh announced resignation on his Instagram account.

“When I returned to Esteghlal, the team neither had a coach nor a general manager. I did my best for a better situation but I am accused of being here for myself and it’s while I’ve done everything for the fans so far. From now on, I am an Esteghlal fan and will not work as a board of directors’ member,” Fathollahzadeh wrote on his Instagram.

Coach Andrea Stramaccioni left Esteghlal three weeks ago and has not yet returned to the club.

Esteghlal fans hoped that a solution can be found with the help of Fathollahzadeh.

Fathollahzadeh is an Iranian businessman and football administrator, who was formerly the chairman of the Esteghlal FC. He is also managing-director of Esteghlal Javan Newspaper.

Earlier, a member of the board of directors of the Esteghlal football club said Farhad Majidi is a candidate to replace Italian coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

“We don’t know what Stramaccioni wants. He had said he would have returned to Iran if he had received his payment,” Ali Fathollahzadeh has said earlier this month.

According To Iran News, Football Players Agent Federico Pastorello informed in a tweet on Tuesday that the Italian coach Andrea Stramaccioni is ready to go straight back to Iran to coach Esteghlal in case the made commitments are fulfilled.

“The great affection shown by Esteghlal fans and their players in the last few days has been extraordinary and left Andrea Stramaccioni deeply touched,” Pastorello wrote.

“Andrea’s decision to leave Tehran has been deeply considered as well as very suffered, and it has not been due by his intention to sign for any another club of course!!! Such decision has exclusively been dictated by the several, serious and continuous breaches of contract committed by the Club during these months, with reference to which the Club has not given yet any concrete signal to comply with,” he claimed.
“Andrea is ready to go straight back to coach what has became his favorite team as long as the club proves with facts its will to respect its commitments and promised made,” the agent announced.

Stramaccioni announced on Sunday that he and his staff are terminating the contract with the Esteghlal football team but the club’s managers are still trying to find a way to continue work with the successful Italian coach.

Under the guidance of Stramaccioni, Eteghlal could get back to the top of Iran Professional League’s table after some four years. Almost all the experts inside the country praise the work of the Italian coach in creating a unified attacking team.

Stramaccioni, Esteghlal Go through Dialogue

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Italian coach Andrea Stramaccioni announced on Sunday that he and his staff are terminating the contract with the Esteghlal football team but the club’s managers are still trying to find a way to continue work with the successful Italian coach.

Being under unilateral US sanctions, there are limitations for transferring money outside Iran and Esteghlal has failed to pay the wage of coaching staff according to the contract. This made the coaching staff, also including Marco Caser, Sebastian Eduardo Leto and Omar Danesi, to announce unilateral termination of the contract on Sunday.

The news was a great shock to Esteghlal fans and the issue has become a trend on Twitter among Iranian netizens.

Reports indicate that Stramaccioni and Leto have left Tehran early on Monday.

In an official statement on Monday, Eteghlal appreciated the efforts of the Italian coach, highlighting that the club has fulfilled all its obligations under the contract. The statement said that the club has paid the wage of the coach but because of some problems in his bank account, the transaction has not completed.

It said that club managers have failed to make any contact with the Italian coach on Sunday but negotiations are underway with his lawyers. One of the lawyers has suggested decreasing the contract term from two to one year which has been rejected by the club, said the statement, adding that the remaining salary of the coach will be paid on Monday.

“According to the documents, Mr. Stramaccioni is not entitled to unilaterally terminate the contract and Esteghlal FC is still considering the agreement as valid and is ready to solve the problems in a face-to-face meeting as before,” noted the statement.

Andrea Stramaccioni Quits as Esteghlal Coach

Andrea Stramaccioni has resigned as coach of Esteghlal after the Iranian football club failed to respect contractual obligations.

The Italian coach has lauded the Esteghlal fans in a letter but has said he was forced to leave the club.

“I would like to take this opportunity for thanking all the First Team’s players as well as the rest of the staff for the excellent performances and professional cooperation which have permitted the Team to reach the top of the ranking despite all the difficulties of these past months. Last but not least , the Coach would like to say a big big thank to the really amazing fans of Esteghlal FC for their unique and unbelievable support during all this period and wish them to reach with their beloved team all the successes which they deserve, with the heart broken I was forced to leave hoping to be together again one day in the future,” Stramaccioni said.

Stramaccioni assistant Javad Zarincheh has been named as Esteghlal’s interim coach.

He will lead Esteghlal in the match against Paykan on Monday.

Esteghlal starts 10-day training camp in Turkey

The team arrived in Istanbul on Monday night and started the first training session on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the team will also hold two friendly matches during its stay in the neighboring country.

Esteghlal is preparing for the 19th Persian Gulf Pro League. The last time that the Blues gained the event’s title, goes back to 2012-2013 season.

The team finished the previous season at the third place and in order to advance to 2020 AFC Champions League, it has to hold matches with still undetermined rivals at the preliminary round.

Esteghlal signed the 43-year-old Italian coach Andrea Stramaccioni in early June along with some other players from Iran. The team is seeking to further boost its attacking style by hiring international forwards as current reports link it with Malian forward Cheick Tidiane Diabaté.

The Italian coach was officially named Esteghlal coach on a two-year contract on Thursday. The former Inter coach attended a press conference in Tehran.

“First, I would like to thank the Esteghlal officials because I have been warmly welcomed here and I am proud of being Esteghlal coach. One of the reasons I decided to come here is a good relationship between Iran and Italy. I know that I will experience so many difficulties in Iran. Iran play a different style than Italy but it’s normal that the fans have requested to display Italian style in their team,” Stramaccioni said.

“I know that Esteghlal have not won a title in the league in the last six years and it will be difficult to be top in the league because there are several teams who are better than us. we have a lot of work to do, because some players have left the team and we have signed some new players,” the Italian coach added.

“I will not promise the fans to win the title this season but we will do our best to improve the quality of the team. All teams play for win in any tournament and we have to keep going step by step,” Stramaccioni stated.

“I am interested in playing attacking football. Defensive football makes a bad situation. My teams have always played attacking football but we have to see our players at first to know that which style of football we can play. If you don’t know your players, you will not get result,” he concluded.

Stramaccioni signs for Esteghlal

Stramaccioni is a 43-year-old Italian tactician best known for his spells in charge of Inter and Udinese.

He had more fascinating adventures in recent years, working at Panathinaikos and Sparta Prague.

Esteghlal managers have held a four-hour-long negotiation with the Italian coach Andrea Stramaccioni on Tuesday in Turkey.

According to the official website of Esteghlal FC, the club’s president Amirhossein Fathi and sporting director Ali Khatir have held a four-hour-long negotiation with Andrea Stramaccioni and his agent.

Former Inter Milan coach showed that he knows the Iranian team very well and is aware of interesting technical details about the team’s players, noted the report, adding that Stramaccioni will reveal the results of talks on June 1.

Esteghlal suspended the German Winfried Schäfer in late April due to team’s failure in the Iran Professional League (IPL) and also in the 2019 AFC Champions League. Assistant Farhad Majidi, a former striker of the team, replaced him till the season end. According to reports, the German coach has signed a contract with UAE’s Baniyas SC.

Esteghlal finished this season’s IPL no better than the 3rd place with 57 points, while their arch-rival Persepolis, with 61 points, claimed the title for the third consecutive year.
