TEHRAN (Iran News) The state metals company IMIDRO announced on Saturday that Iran’s four aluminum smelters produced 400,425 mt of aluminum ingots during the first eight months of the Iranian calendar year, which began on March 20, 2024. In comparison, the country’s aluminum ingot production for the same eight-month period last year was 419,573 mt.

Among the four major producers in the country, the South Aluminum Corporation (SALCO) performed the best, producing 162,459 mt of aluminum ingots. This was followed by the Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO), which produced 115,624 mt, the Almahdi Aluminum Company with 99,954 mt, and the Iran Alumina Company, which produced 22,388 mt of ingots.

In addition, the Iran Alumina Company reported production figures for the March to November period, which included 159,416 tons of alumina powder, 269,145 tons of alumina hydrate, and 514,420 tons of bauxite. These figures indicate year-on-year increases of 5 percent for both alumina powder and alumina hydrate plus a significant 41 percent increase for bauxite production.

According to reports, the CEO of Makin Darya Qeshm Industrial Group Mr. Mehdi Zare announced the news and said in line with materializing the Supreme Leader’s recommendations regarding the Second Step of the Revolution and the slogan of the year, the aluminum piers have been designed, manufactured and installed by the group aimed at organizing docking of 60 fishing vessels with a budget  over 11b tomans and with the investment of Fishery Organization of Bushehr Province and with efforts of the revolutionary staff and youth of Makin Qeshm Darya Group.

He said that aluminum piers have been designed, manufactured and installed with marine grade 6005 and observing all international standards. He added that the cross bracing system of these piers is with buttress and support.

Zare also criticized some officials for not paying the money for carrying out the project of the group which was done 5 years ago for fishery organization at Abukhazir in Shadgan Wetland. He expressed hope in the 43th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution the related officials would move on course to materializing the slogan of the year which is focused on removing hurdles in way of production.

Then in the ceremony, Deputy Agriculture Minister and Head of Iran Fishery Organization said that for 25 years he has been aware of the problems of those people who are involved in fishery industry and he feels their problems very well. He added that as the Supreme Leader has reiterated, the key for resolving all problems is the jihadi management, adding that the piers should be built in a way to fit the vessels docking there.

Dayyer Port is one of the most important fishing ports of Bushehr Province and it is the biggest fishing port of southern country.

As previously announced by IMIDRO, the production of aluminum ingot in Iran rose 61 percent during the previous Iranian calendar year 1399 (ended on March 20, 2021), compared to the figure for the preceding year.

The country’s aluminum ingot output stood at 446,800 tons in the previous year.

Iran’s major aluminum producers had managed to produce 278,318 tons of the product in the Iranian calendar year 1398.

The country’s aluminum ingot production in the Iranian calendar year 1398 had declined eight percent in comparison to the figure for its preceding year.

IMIDRO data show that among the country’s top producers, Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO) had the best performance in the previous year producing 185,000 tons of aluminum ingots.

Aluminum ingot production in the country reached 41,000 tons in the last month of the previous year (February 19-March 20, 2021), registering a 38 percent rise compared to the 30,000 tons in the preceding year’s same period.

Annual production of the aluminum ingot in the country is planned to increase 63 percent by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20).

Last year, during the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s biggest aluminum production complex (in the central Fars province), the former industry minister said the country’s aluminum production is expected to be doubled with that unit going operational.

The official put the value of the Iranian mining industry’s production at about $22 billion, saying that the country is relatively self-sufficient in minerals and a great deal is also exported every year.

He went on underlying the country’s capacities in the sector, saying that Iran is ranked 18th among the world’s top aluminum producers, and with this new plant going operational the country will climb four places to stand at 14th place.”

Iran plans to reach the annual production of 1.5 million tons of aluminum ingot by the Iranian calendar year 1404 (March 2025-March 2026).

The report covered by the official IRNA news agency on Saturday said that total output in four major aluminum smelters in Iran had reached 0.4468 million tons, up from 0.2783 million tons reported for the year to March 2020.

It said the Iranian Aluminium Company (IRALCO) had the highest share of production at 185,000 tons. It was followed by Al Mahdi, Iran’s largest aluminum smelter on the Persian Gulf which includes Hormozal smelter, at 165,000 tons.

Production at Salco, a smelter set up in late 2019 in southern Iran, topped 72,100 tons while Iran Alumina Company churned out 25,400 tons, showed IMIDRO figures.

Production in four smelters rose by 38% to 41,000 tons in the final month of the fiscal year compared to the month to March 20, 2020, said the report.

Iran has seen an increased activity in its metals and mining sector since the United States imposed sanctions on the country’s crude exports in 2018.

Reports suggest that exports of metals have been responsible for a significant portion of government’s hard currency revenues in recent years.

A senior IMIDRO official said in early March that the metals and mining sector in Iran had expanded by at least six percent over the last calendar year despite a global slowdown in the sector because of the spread of the coronavirus that forced closures at mines and production facilities around the world.

The IMIDRO data show that 121,934 tons of the product were produced by Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO) during the mentioned period.

Iran produced 276,575 tons of aluminum ingots in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2019).

IRALCO accounted for producing 53 percent of the total production in the past year.

As the world’s 18th producer of aluminum, Iran plans to reach the annual production of 1.5 million tons of aluminum ingot by the Iranian calendar year 1404 (March 2025-March 2026).

The country is targeting the production of 823,000 tons of aluminum ingots for the next Iranian calendar year (March 19, 2020-March 20, 2021), which requires an investment of $1.8 billion.
