TEHRAN (Iran News) – General Michael Kurilla, who now serves as the head of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), has recently proposed an idea which would include forming an integrated air and missile defense system in West Asia with the inclusion of Israel.

Kurilla added that the notion is “a priority” for the U.S.

Why does this matter?

Four informed sources told Axios in June that the White House had a covert briefing with think tank experts concerning Joe Biden’s travel to the region, and that the subject of a “road map for normalization” was discussed.

However, the sources did not go into detail about the roadmap. In this sense, Biden’s administration wishes to strengthen collaboration between these countries in order to fight the so-called Iranian threat by merging their early warning, intelligence, and interception capabilities.

Kurilla arrived in Tel Aviv on July 17 after visiting Jordan and areas in Syria under U.S. control. It was his second journey to the occupied Palestine in two months, and his fifth since becoming CENTCOM commander earlier this year.

He met with Israeli Defense (read: War) Minister Benny Gantz and Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Aviv Kochavi to discuss their shared security concerns.

He concentrated on Israel’s air and missile defense systems, as well as the threat posed by modern unmanned aerial systems and ballistic missiles.

Kurilla emphasized that integrated air and missile defense remained an objective for CENTCOM and its Middle Eastern partners. “This is critical to defending our forces, our partners, and our interests. It is a clear priority, one we discussed during our engagements in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem,” he said.

He also spoke with Israeli missile defense crew members and battalion commanders, which he claims allowed him to view and understand Israeli military and security policy from the ground troops’ perspectives.

“This was not a series of Power Point meetings in an office: we visited IDF facilities and operations centers, spoke with the men and women who make Israel’s defense systems work, and engaged in deep discussions about innovation and technology,” Kurilla said.

“CENTCOM’s commitment to the region is ironclad. … This region is at the center of America’s strategic competition with Russia and China,” he also said.

“By linking together militaries with mutual security concerns, the Abraham Accords may serve a great benefit to regional security,” he added, referring to the accords brokered during the Trump administration that normalized relations between Israel and certain Arab nations.

“The accords allow us to focus on the areas in which our security interests align. In that, there is great promise.”

This occurs despite the fact that many Arab states have rejected the notion. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has said that he was not aware of any discussions between Arab states of the Persian Gulf region with Israel, and that his country was not interested in such discussions.

Similarly, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi stated in June that no conversations on forming an Arab alliance with Israel had taken place.

In his remarks, Jordan’s top diplomat blasted as false accusations by Western and Israeli media outlets about Tel Aviv’s efforts to form a military alliance with various Arab countries against Iran with the assistance of the U.S.

According to another report by Al-Araby-Al-Jadeed, Cairo has assured Tehran that it will not be a part of any military alliance that operates against Iran.

Biden’s goal to establish an alliance against Iran has failed, but if the administration insists on pursuing it, they are welcome to suffer yet another setback in their foreign policy approach.

In the most recent developments about Iran’s efforts to repair ties with regional countries, Iran’s foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, indicated in a live talk show televised late Thursday that Kuwait and the UAE will soon send ambassadors to Tehran.

He stated that the UAE ambassador will travel to Iran soon, and that Kuwait has already selected a new ambassador to Tehran.

The UAE president’s diplomatic adviser, Anwar Gargash, had earlier said Riyadh is considering to send an ambassador to Tehran to mend relations with Iran.

“We are rock solid in our commitment to NATO,” Johnson said to NATO leaders at the opening of summit celebrating the alliance’s 70th birthday.

“History shows that peace cannot be taken for granted and even as we celebrate this anniversary we must ensure our deeds match our words,” Johnson said, Reuters reported.

“We must never shy away from discussing new realities, particularly NATO’s response to emerging threats like hybrid warfare and disruptive technologies including space and cyber,” he said.

In November, Macron told The Economist magazine that the world was experiencing the “brain death” of NATO, warning that members of the alliance could no longer rely on the US.

In comments to the press ahead of a NATO meeting in London on Tuesday, Trump said Macron’s words had been “very, very nasty” to the other 28 member states. He added that it was “very insulting” for the French president to label NATO as brain dead. “You can’t go around saying that about NATO,” Trump added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Friday that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) could become “obsolete” if it does not grow and change, a day after French President Emmanuel Macron said the alliance was dying.

“If nations believe that they can get the security benefit without providing NATO the resources that it needs, if they don’t live up to their commitments, there is a risk that NATO could become ineffective or obsolete,” Pompeo said after a speech in Berlin on Friday, according to Reuters.

The US secretary of state was echoing demands by President Donald Trump, who has long been accusing European NATO members of failing to provide their fair share of military spending and of relying too heavily on the US for their defense.

“Seventy years on … it [NATO] needs to grow and change,” Pompeo added. “It needs to confront the realities of today and the challenges of today.”

His remarks came a day after French President Emmanuel Macron lamented the “brain death of NATO” and responded “I don’t know” when asked whether he still believes in the treaty’s security agreement that an attack on one ally is an attack on all.

France and Germany have suggested a plan for creating a European army that could rival NATO, and better contribute to collective defense.

The EU has recently been making suggestions that Brussels could no longer rely on Washington to defend the NATO alliance, as distrust grows between the US and the EU.

TEHRAN – An Iranian cleric slammed the US president’s harsh remarks against Iran at the UN General Assembly as an indication of Washington’s outrage at its “ideological failures”, noting that Russia’s alliance with Iran in the war against terrorism has infuriated and frustrated Americans.

The anti-Iran remarks at the UN General Assembly were made by a weak-minded, hawkish, and lying person who is the US president, Tehran’s Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Kazem Seddiqi said in a gathering of worshippers.

Highlighting Donald Trump’s plummeting popularity in the US, the cleric said a person without domestic support would get easily irritated.

He also attributed the US administration’s anger to its ideological defeats, adding, “Russia’s leader stood with us in the war against Daesh (ISIL terrorist group) which has resulted in the US frustration and fury.”

In comments on Thursday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei deplored recent remarks by Trump against Iran as “foolish, very ugly and ignoble”, saying they were rooted in Washington’s anger over its defeats in West Asia.

“The foolish, very ugly, and ignoble speech of the US president, with its gangster and cowboy language full of sheer lies, is rooted in their anger, frustration, and light-headedness,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with members of Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

The remarks did not stem from power but from anger and frustration because the Americans are infuriated that their years-long plots in West Asia have been foiled following the Islamic Republic’s effective presence in the region, the Leader stated.

TEHRAN– A senior member of the Syrian parliament praised the Arab country’s recent victories over foreign-backed terrorist groups and said the alliance of “warmongers” against the Damascus government has failed to reach its strategic goals.

Khaled al-Aboud pointed to the silence of certain Western and Arab states, the US in particular, over the recent victories of the Syrian army and its allied forces against terrorists and said, “The strategic goals of the alliance of aggressors have now failed (to materialize).”

He further emphasized the Axis of Resistance has reached many achievements against the terrorists’ excessive violence in Syria.

“…We believe that the foundations of the coalition of aggressors have collapsed and the warmongers have been split and divided,” the Syrian lawmaker said.

For example, he added, the alliance of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey against Damascus has become history.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
