A Bola has reported that Portugal’s Vitória Guimarães should pay six million euros to Iran and Persepolis goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to sign him.

The Portuguese club has to also pay Persepolis club 700.000 dollars buyout clause if wants to sign Beiranvand, the newspaper said.

Turkish top-flight football teams Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Caykur Rizespor and Greek side Olympiakos had already shown interest in signing the goalkeeper.

Beiranvand has been nominated for the AFC Player of the Year.

He is famously known for saving Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

According To Iran News, Iran and Persepolis football team goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand won a silver medal at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Awards 2019.

The Japan Inclusive Football Federation (NGO), Shell Qatar’s Koora Time Programme (Corporate) and Nepali journalist and filmmaker, Bhojraj Bhat (Individual) won the awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday.

Filmmaker Bhojraj Bhat made international headlines with his moving 2015 documentary Sunakali, which cast the spotlight on a group of aspiring teenage female footballers from the remote and mountainous district of Mugu in Nepal.

The documentary was shown in more than 130 film festivals across Europe, and also won more than 20 awards. Bhat’s authentic portrayal of the challenges faced by the footballers not only garnered international recognition but paved the way for the girls’ participation in the Donosti Cup in Spain.

Beiranvand finished in second place behind Bhojraj Bhat at the Individual category.

Beiranvand saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo in the match against Portugal in the 2018 World Cup and thrusted his name into the international spotlight.

Beiranvand also helped Persepolis reach 2018 AFC Champions League final, where the Reds lost to Kashima Antlers of Japan 2-0 on aggregate.

Go back 12 months and few people across Asia, let alone the world, knew the name Alireza Beiranvand.

Then just 25, the lanky shot-stopper had established himself as the number one goalkeeper for both club and country, but it was at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia that Beiranvand really made his name, saving a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo and thrusting his name into the international spotlight.

He saved an early penalty against Oman in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and helped Team Melli advance to quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over its rival.

“Let me tell you a funny story. Before the World Cup, a (fake) video was published in which Cristiano Ronaldo was lining up against me, and I felt there was some harsh criticism, with people joking that he would score numerous goals past me,” Beiranvand told AFC Quarterly recently.

“This was one of the things that came into my mind when he was getting ready to take the penalty. I also thought of my tough background and how much it would mean to me to save one of his penalties,” he added.

“I have lived a hard life and have had some very difficult moments; nobody knew me when I left home and came to Tehran,” Beiranvand explained.

“I used to have trials at different clubs to try and prove that I was good enough to offer a professional contract. But I also needed somewhere to sleep at nights, so because of that I worked in restaurants and at carwashes, for example, to be able to afford it.”

“Now I have the chance to play against the best footballers in the world, like at the World Cup in Russia, and live a nice life with my family and teammates. I think this is the result of the hard work I put in when I was younger,” the Persepolis coach added.

“I’d say half of my dreams and wishes have already come true, but my background is always the motivation that drives me forward to progress more and more. The only thing that I was thinking about were my dear people,” he said after the match.

“I sincerely wanted to make them happy, because when you get to this stage, everyone watches the game. It’s one game, if you lose it, you’re eliminated. I knew people were praying, and I could only focus. Thankfully, I was able to help my team, and make my people happy,” Beiranvand concluded.

Iran booked a place in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals after beating Oman 2-0 thanks to his saves.

He saved a penalty early on, before making several superb stops, Fox Sports Asia reported.

Beiranvand proved once again that he is indeed one of the best goalkeepers in Asia, if not the best.

Also, Ashkan Dejagah has been Iran’s unsung hero throughout the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. And he stepped up again when his team needed the most, netting a crucial penalty in the 41st minute.

The last of Iran’s three triumphs in the AFC Asian Cup was in 1976, meaning that it will be 43 years since the Persians last won the title by the time the action in the UAE 2019 kicks off next January.

Team Melli have been drawn along with Iraq, Vietnam and Yemen in the tournament’s Group D.

Beiranvand was a standout in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The goalkeeper starred as Team Melli came close to getting out of a difficult group containing Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

He put himself on the global stage in Russia after saving Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty.

Beiranvand also was a key player in Iran’s Persepolis reaching the final of the Champions League for the first time since the tournament started in 2003.

“We will participate in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup to win the title. It’s time to win the trophy after 43 years. The players are highly motivated as they know they can win and there is no way but to claim the title,” Beiranvand said.

“We performed very well in the 2018 World Cup and all the experts and football fans expect we also play well in the UAE. Of course, Team Melli will have a difficult task ahead since the competition will bring Asian powerful teams together. Japan, Australia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia are favorites to win the cup as well as the UAE and Qatar,” the Persepolis goalie stated.

“In the previous edition in Australia, we lost to Iraq in penalty shootout but we’ve learned from our mistakes and will do our best to meet high expectations,” Beiranvand concluded.

For the first time, the nomination is open to all jurors. After a two-week nomination stage and discussion within the prize organizing committee,  a 24-man nominee list will be drawn up to contest for the supreme individual footballing award for Asian football excellence.

Unlike the Asian Football Confederation’s Asian Footballer of the year judged by AFC technical department and match commissioners, Best Footballer in Asia, founded by Titan Sports, the only media representative of China voting for Ballon d’Or, applies the similar organizing structure and voting rules as France Football’s Ballon d’Or.

The juror panel is constituted by media representatives of nearly 40 AFC football associations and some Asian football experts of European football media outlets, bringing the total amount of jurors to 42 (2017 edition). The eligibility of the nominees for Best Footballer in Asia, is wider than AFC Player of the Year.

The deadline for the vote is December 20.
