Government Spokesman Tests Positive for COVID-19

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Government Spokesman Ali Rabiei has tested positive for the COVID-19, according to his office.

In a statement on Monday, the office of the spokesman said that his weekly presser has been canceled.

Rabiei was resting at home from the weekend after showing some symptoms and his initial test has turned out to be positive, noted the statement, adding that he has been hospitalized for further analysis.

According to the office, Rabiei’s overall conditions are good.

According to the Iranian Health Ministry on Monday, COVID-19 has infected 2,434 people in Iran in the past 24 hours, increasing the total cases to 293,606.

Iranian Spokesman Highlights Strategy for Ties with Neighbors

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The spokesman for the Iranian administration described closer ties with the neighboring states as a top priority in the country’s foreign policy strategy.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Ali Rabiee pointed to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s trip to Tehran, saying, “Relations with the neighbors is one of the government’s main priorities.”

He said the Iraqi premier is visiting Iran while “the policy of ties with neighbors, as a basic strategy in Iranian foreign policy, has entered a new stage.”

Rabiee also expressed hope that Iran and Iraq would hold constructive negotiations during Prime Minister Kadhimi’s stay in Tehran in order to promote cooperation between the two neighbors and define the prospect for future cooperation.

The spokesman further pointed to the administration’s efforts to repatriate the foreign currency from the exports to the country’s economy, stressing, “Our currency income will definitely become better than today considering the oil sales.”

He finally noted that the real price of foreign currency in Iran is lower than the market price.

Prime Minister of Iraq is paying a visit to Iran with a ranking political and economic delegation before travelling to the US.

In his two-day visit, Kadhimi is scheduled to hold meetings with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

US to Be Held Accountable for Adventurism in Region

According To Iran News, The spokesman for Iran’s administration warned the US that it will be held accountable for the consequences of adventurism in the region.

Speaking to reporters during a video press conference on Saturday, Ali Rabiee dismissed the American officials’ recent rhetoric of military action, saying, “The one who will benefit from insecurity in the Persian Gulf is the United States of America.”

The spokesman said the recent plunge in the US oil prices has turned fomenting insecurity in the region into a beneficial option for Washington. “As a result, our strategy is de-escalation of tension in the Persian Gulf.

“However, I would make it clear that the responsibility for any adventurism in the region lies with the US, and we won’t remain passive in reaction to such acts of adventurism.”

He expressed Iran’s readiness to review security treaties and approaches to fighting against coronavirus with regional countries during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure a region free of violence for an effective battle with COVID-19 and protecting the lives of people.

“Nevertheless, we will definitely give the necessary responses to the aggressors,” Rabiee underlined.

In remarks earlier on Saturday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran is closely monitoring the activities of American forces in the region, but it will never begin any skirmish and tension in the region.

Coronavirus Infection, Mortality Rates in Iran on Decline

According To Iran News, The novel coronavirus infection rate and the number of deaths from the disease are on a downward trend in Iran, the spokesperson for the administration said.

Ali Rabiee said at a press conference on Monday that Iran has seen a declining trend in the COVID-19 cases and the deaths due to the infection.

Pointing to a big rise in the domestic production of face masks and medical supplies after the outbreak of coronavirus, Rabiee said the country has begun to export disinfectants.

He further highlighted the administration’s efforts to mitigate the direct and indirect effects of the coronavirus, such as unemployment and poverty, stressing that no other country in the world faces the cruel sanctions that Iran is facing.

The spokesman also noted that more than 72 million Iranians have been screened for COVID-19, saying the second stage of screening includes targeted tests.

“There is nothing known as normalization of situation… We ought to live with distancing and observance of the instructions until the day that the Health Ministry announces the defeat of the virus,” he added.

The number of people who have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection in Iran is about to hit 60,000, while the death toll has exceeded 5,200, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

According To Iran News, The spokesperson for Iran’s administration said an Iranian airplane recently flew to Saudi Arabia to take back the employees of one of the country’s airlines from the city of Jeddah.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday, Ali Rabiee provided an explanation for an Iranian flight that has landed in Jeddah recently.

He said the airplane has flown to the Saudi city to bring home the Iran Air employees.

The purpose of the flight was only to repatriate the Iranian airline’s employees, Rabiee added, stressing that no political issue has been involved.

Iranian Spokesman: No Interruption to Social Distancing

According To Iran News, The spokesperson for the Iranian administration dismissed speculation about a halt to the social distancing measures to counter the coronavirus pandemic, saying the government cares about both the health and economic life of people.

There will be no halt to the social distancing strategy, Ali Rabiee said at a press conference on Monday, stressing that protection of health of people is a basic principle for the administration, not just one of the priorities.

The model that the government follows regards the health of people as fundamental, and at the same time it cares about the economic and social life of people in accordance with the social distancing and health protocols, he added.

“We should all know that in our strategy, protection of lives of people is still the principle and basis, and there is no replacement for the health of society. Some announce that a series of priorities are changing. That’s not true, as our decisions are made to protect the health of people,” Rabiee added.

On Saturday, President Hassan Rouhani unveiled a plan for smart social distancing across the country as a new phase of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The president has also called on the chairpersons of committees of the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters to assess the situation carefully and make decisions about the details of the new plan.

Varied and extensive protocols for the fight against the coronavirus should be defined carefully in all fields, proportional to various businesses, for the reopening period after making sure that following the previous stages, the conditions have been stabilized, he emphasized.

The president underlined that the new health protocols for smart social distancing should be devised in such a way that all people in various sectors may rest assured that their health would be protected with a high degree of confidence by observing the protocols if they get out of the house or work.

World Cannot Go without Iranian Oil: Minister

Iranian Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Welfare Ali Rabiee shrugged of the US government’s recent attempts to remove Iranian oil exports from global market and said the world cannot go without Iran’s oil.

In remarks released on Saturday, Rabiee highlighted the significance of Iran’s oil exports and said the issue is important to the country.

“In any event, we sell our oil and the world cannot go without our oil,” he added.

“(Our) experience shows that various sanctions have failed to stop our oil sales and we will succeed in this area,” the minister said.

Earlier this week, an Iranian oil ministry official told Tasnim that US efforts to cut Iran oil exports will remain futile since removing the country’s crude and condensate from global market is not an easy task in near future.

“This big claim (of cutting Iran oil supply) is not feasible because last month Iran exported 2.8 million barrels of crude oil and condensate per day,” the informed official at Iran oil ministry said in response to a senior US State Department official who said the Donald Trump administration is ramping up pressure on allies to cut off funding to Iran.

Reuters had earlier reported that the United States has told countries to cut all imports of Iranian oil from November.

“Yes, we are asking them to go to zero,” the US official said when asked if the United States was pushing allies, including China and India, to cut oil imports to zero by November.

In reply, the Iranian oil ministry official said some European companies such as Shell and Total have stopped buying Iranian oil over the past few weeks but Iran is still exporting oil to Europe, Asia, and elsewhere in the world.

Asked about Iran’s reaction in case of the implementation of the US plan, the official said, “Iran is prepared for worst-case scenarios.”

He added, “The most pessimistic scenarios have been predicted in Iran’s oil sale plans, and each scenario has an operational alternative….”

The Iranian oil ministry official also reacted to a possible operationalization of a US decision to fill gap in oil market, and said, “Unlike what US officials think, there is no surplus capacity for Saudi Arabia, the UAE and others to supply oil for a long term.”
