Referring to Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi’s visit to Iran, Ali Najafi Khoshroudi said on Monday that “Iran and Iraq are two neighboring countries that, despite the ups and downs in their history of relations, are now cooperating in various economic, commercial, cultural and tourism spheres, and have a good relationship in consolidating peace and security in the region.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has made unparalleled contributions to the fight against terrorism in Iraq and has long stood alongside the Iraqi government and people, and we now expect that in the face of cruel sanctions imposed by the US against Iran, the Iraqi government will be alongside the Iranian nation and government,” he added.

“Iran’s strategic policy has consistently been to strengthen intra-regional cooperation,” he noted.

Khoshroudi went on to say that despite the emphasis of the Islamic Republic on the development and strengthening of regional cooperation, some countries are sowing discord and disagreement in the region instead of striving to consolidate peace and security.

“Those countries and regimes which seek to sow discord cannot undermine Iran-Iraq relations,” he stressed.

Heading a high-ranking political-economic delegation, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi arrived in Tehran on Saturday morning for a two-day state visit at the official invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields is the focus of negotiation between senior officials on this visit.

TEHRAN – Ali Najafi Khoshroudi, the spokesman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has shrugged off the renewed U.S. sanctions against Iran, contrary to the past there is no consensus against Iran.

Except the Zionist regime, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the entire world have shunned the U.S. exit from the nuclear deal and the return of sanctions against Iran.

“The Europeans and also Russia… are seriously against the U.S. new decisions. Europe is making efforts to reduce effects of the sanctions in its ties with Iran,” Khoshroundi said, Mehr reported on Saturday.

Given that Iran is member to a number of international bodies and has also many neighbors, it has many economic capacities to counter the U.S. sanctions, he remarked.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced Washington’s unilateral exit from the multilateral nuclear deal on May 8 and ordered restoration of sanctions against Iran.

The first batch of sanctions was snapped back on Monday, August 6. The second batch will be restored on November 4.

Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign policy chief, responded on Tuesday to the Iran sanctions by calling on companies to disregard threats from Washington.

“If there is one piece of international agreements on nuclear non-proliferation that is delivering, it has to be maintained. We are encouraging small and medium enterprises, in particular, to increase business with and in Iran as part of something (that) for us is a security priority,” she said.

According to CNBC, China also condemned the measures reinstated against Tehran and urged oil and gas firms to reject calls for them to completely cut off from Iranian crude.

“China’s commercial cooperation with Iran is open and transparent, reasonable, fair and lawful, not violating any United Nations Security Council resolutions,” China’s Foreign Ministry said.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Tuesday saying, “We will do everything necessary in the interests of preserving and fully implementing the SVPD (Iran nuclear deal).”

TEHRAN – Ali Najafi Khoshroudi, the spokesman of Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on Saturday that Iran-U.S. talks are possible if Washington apologizes and returns to the 2015 nuclear deal.

“If they remain committed to the JCPOA [the official name for the nuclear agreement], apologize and abandon their hostile policies, it will be possible to hold talks,” he told ISNA.

In a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on July 30, U.S. President Donald Trump said he is ready to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani without setting any pre-condition.

“It’s good for the country, good for them, good for us and good for the world. No preconditions. If they want to meet, I’ll meet,” Trump said.

MP Khoshroudi said the U.S., by offering to hold talks with Iran, is seeking to make up for its lost credit.

“The U.S. paid a high price after leaving the JCPOA and the country is called violator of the international obligations. This action of Trump is intended to make up for the lost credibility of the U.S. and seeks to say that Iran is unwilling to hold talks,” the lawmaker opined.

Immediately after Trump said he was ready to meet his Iranian counterpart, his chief diplomat Mike Pompeo sounded a quite different tone.

“We’ve said this before,” said Pompeo, the former CIA chief. “If the Iranians demonstrate a commitment to make fundamental changes in how they treat their own people, reduce (what he called) their malign behavior, can agree that it’s worthwhile to enter into a nuclear agreement that actually prevents proliferation, then the president said he’s prepared to sit down and have the conversation with them.”

Analysts said the remarks by Pompeo showed that there is a chaos in the Trump administration.

A day after Trump proposed talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet said, “Iran & U.S. had 2 yrs of talks. With EU/E3+Russia+China, we produced a unique multilateral accord—the JCPOA. It’s been working. U.S. can only blame itself for pulling out & leaving the table. Threats, sanctions & PR stunts won’t work. Try respect: for Iranians & for int’l commitments.”
