TEHRAN (Iran News) Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has emphasized the necessity of strengthening collaboration between Iran and Algeria within the international community and organizations, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

Araqchi made these remarks during a phone conversation with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, during which they discussed bilateral ties, as well as regional and international developments.

The Iranian foreign minister highlighted the Israeli regime’s atrocities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as its aggression against Lebanon. He called for increased coordination and cooperation among Islamic nations to halt the genocide of the Palestinian people and prevent the forced displacement of this defenseless nation.

Araqchi also updated Attaf on the latest developments regarding indirect talks between the Islamic Republic and the United States concerning the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.

He also expressed gratitude to Algeria for its principled stance on Iran’s nuclear issue during a recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

In response, the Algerian foreign minister expressed concern over the insecurity in the region caused by the actions of the Israeli regime. He condemned the massacre of innocent people in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need for effective action by Islamic countries and the international community.

Attaf further expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the Shahid Rajaee Port explosion, as well as the Iranian people and the government of the Islamic Republic, regarding this tragic incident.

During the visit, which comes at the official invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Iranian chief executive is scheduled to meet with other top officials from the 19-member gathering of the world’s leading natural gas producers. The two presidents are also set to sign several memoranda of understanding on the sidelines of the international meeting.Raeisi’s trip marks the fourth visit of Iranian presidents to the North African country, which took place with a gap of about 14 years after former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit in 2010.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Ibrahim Boughali, the speaker of the National Assembly of Algeria, has praised Iran’s achievements in medical, agricultural, and technological fields, saying that Iran can help other Islamic countries make scientific progress.

Boughali visited Iran’s House of Innovation and Technology (IHIT) in Tehran, as he was accompanied by Amir-Hossein Mirabadi, an official with the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, IRNA reported.

“Tehran-Algeria interactions in knowledge-based fields will benefit the two countries,” the Algerian official highlighted.

“Algeria’s new policy is to reduce its dependence on oil and gas and to make more diverse investments in other sectors.”

He added the exchange of information and interactions between experts is essential, and the result will definitely benefit the two countries.

Mirabadi, for his part, said: “We are optimistic about strengthening the relations between the two countries and we hope to be able to establish bilateral cooperation in the fields such as agriculture, water, electricity, as well as oil and gas.”

“We should try to develop economic ties between the two countries, especially between knowledge-based companies. Boosting cooperation with Algeria in the field of science and technology is one of our priorities.”

He said Iran is ready and willing to support the expansion of science and technology sectors in Algeria.

IHIT in other countries

Over the few past years, with the support of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, the Iranian house of innovation has been set up in several countries to develop the global market for knowledge-based products.

These centers have already been set up in countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Syria, and Kenya, and Iraq will soon join them.

By supporting innovative ideas, and holding technological and innovative events, the centers will be a platform for the development and promotion of Iranian knowledge-based companies, startups, and creative industries

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met on Saturday with his visiting Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf, saying the relations between the two countries proceed on the right track.

Amirabdollahian received Attaf earlier in the day in Tehran, where the two discussed the expansion of ties between Tehran and Algiers, among other issues of mutual interest.

In a joint press conference after the meeting, the chief Iranian diplomat said they agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of science, technology, knowledge-based companies, agriculture, medicine and medical equipment, industry, and mining.

“The relations between the two countries are on the right track,” he said. “At the political level, we have always had robust discussions and consultations at the level of high-ranking officials and presidents, prime ministers, first vice presidents, as well as foreign ministers, and we will continue this path.”

He noted that the two sides agree on holding a joint follow-up commission between Iran’s first vice president and Algeria’s prime minister, and the foreign ministries of both countries would be in charge of the follow-up.

Amirabdollahian also said they agreed on the cancellation of political visas as the first step, which will be followed by the cancellation of regular visas as the second step.

He underlined that the two diplomats had a discussion about regional issues during their meeting, adding, “Algeria did not allow the Zionist regime to become an observer member in the African Union … This country has always supported Palestine and also played an important role in the return of Syria to the Arab League.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to an upcoming summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Algeria, saying President Ebrahim Raisi will participate in the international event for diplomatic consultations with the member states at the summit.

“We are still working to neutralize the sanctions and cancel the unilateral, cruel sanctions through dialogue and diplomacy,” he added.

Attaf, for his part, appreciated the warm welcome by the Iranian foreign minister and underscored the two countries’ high potential to expand their bilateral relations.

“The relations between the two countries are distinguished and have the capacity for further development in economic spheres,” the Algerian foreign minister said.

Pointing to the agreement on establishing a joint committee, Attaf said such mechanisms play an important role and bring about convergence between the two countries, which he said can be a good opportunity for expanding bilateral cooperation.

“The Iran-Algeria relations are extensive in various national and international spheres,” the top Algerian diplomat said, adding, “The Iran-Algeria relations are historical and privileged, and there lies a bright future ahead of us.”

Ataf expressed his country’s satisfaction with the positive relations between the Arab countries and Iran as well as the historic agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia with the mediation of China.

“We hope that this issue will help consolidate convergence in countering the challenges faced by regional countries,” he added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Deputy Head of Iran-Algeria Joint Chamber of Commerce says the efforts for restoring banking relations between the two countries have failed and it has affected the trade volume between the two countries.

Speaking to ILNA and talking about the latest developments in the trade between Iran and Algeria, Mahmoud Tavalaee said that due to the regional problems, sanctions and the Covid pandemic, the trade between Iran and Arab countries like Algeria has worsened. He added that Algeria is one of the important North African states having good ties with Iran while the opportunity for trade and ties between Iran and Algeria has always been good both before and after the Islamic Revolution.

He went on to say that Iran’s treaty with Iraq which is named “Algeria Treaty” shows that this country regarding Iran has more colorful role. He said after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and due to political reasons which are not justifiable, the bilateral trade was halted and neglected but after restoration of ties, their trade ties improved.

Tavalaee added that Algeria can be a gateway for Iran’s entrance into North Africa and even into Central Africa, adding that Algeria is a good opportunity for Iran to work with countries like Libya, Tunisia and even Morocco. He noted that the ties with Egypt are not good yet but Iran can have good opportunities in North Africa.

He reiterated that for long time the chamber had been working for cooperation of an Iranian bank with its Algerian counterpart but it failed, adding that Iranian contractors have carried out several projects in Algeria that he can point to some of them in the water, wastewater and construction projects. He noted that in a certain period Iranian auto-makers could have activities in Algeria and Iranians acted somewhat successfully in exporting food stuff and textile to Algeria and few Iranians could invest in Algeria and launch factories.

Tavalaee said that despite a tough rival like Turkey for competing in Algerian market, Iranians due to good relations with Algerian had shorter course but sanctions hindered Iran from winning the Algerian market, expressing hope with removal of sanctions and finding solutions, the trade between Iran and Algeria would increase and the incomplete projects and businesses would be completed.

He also blamed the pandemic and its negative impact on Iran-Algeria trade and said the pandemic affected dispatches of delegations and businessmen to the exhibitions.

Tavalaee went on to say that problem in banking transfer and problems in transportation have also been effective factors in decline of trade between the two states. He said the launch of the joint economic commission by the governments is one of the main requirements for enhancing trade between the two states. He said some of Iranian contractors have failed to get their money despite finishing their projects in Algeria, adding that Iran has no major agro products exports to Algeria and it still continues.
