Car Blast in Aleppo Leaves Seven Dead

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A booby-trapped car exploded in the northwestern Syrian city of Azaz in Aleppo, occupied by Turkish-backed militants, killing at least seven and wounding dozens of others.

The incident took place in a village near the city of Azaz in Aleppo province, the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the booby-trapped car exploded at a roundabout leading to the entrance of the Bab al-Salam border post, Press TV reported.

The SOHR chief Rami Abdel Rahman says seven people – including five civilians – have been killed and over 60 others wounded, but Anadolu puts the number of wounded at 85.

There were women and children among the wounded, AFP quotes the SOHR chief as saying.

The injured civilians, some of whom are in critical conditions, have been transported across the Turkish border, and hospitalized in the city of Kilis, the report said.

Turkish-backed militants seized the town as a result of Ankara’s Operation Euphrates Shield launched in 2016.

Northern Syria is regularly rocked by bomb blasts, blamed by Ankara on the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Turkey regards as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

However, SOHR blames Daesh for Sunday’s attack, saying it was possibly in retaliation for a surge in operations by Turkish and Turkish-backed forces against Daesh cells in the region.

The deadly attack took place as Syrians voted to elect a new parliament, including, for the first time in years, in former rebel bastions.

More than 7,400 polling stations opened at 7:30 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) on Sunday, including in former militant strongholds of Eastern Ghouta, east of central Damascus, and the southern countryside of the northwestern Idlib province.

President Bashar al-Assad’s Baath party and his allies are expected to win most of the parliament’s 250 seats in the third such polls to be held in Syria ever since foreign-sponsored militancy broke out in March 2011. The two previous polls were staged in May 2012 and April 2016 respectively. In the last legislative elections in 2016, turnout stood at 57.56 percent.

Syria’s air defenses repels missile attack over Aleppo

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Syria’s army air defenses confronted on Monday missile aggression on the Assfaira region in Aleppo southeastern countryside.

At 22.32 pm on May 4th, 2020, a hostile flight occurred on the screens of the army air defenses coming from the northeast of Athria, a military source told Syrian Arab News Agency [SANA].

The flight’s missiles targeted some military depots in the Assfaira region, and the air defenses confronted the hostile missiles.

The source added that verification is underway to evaluate the losses left by the aggression.

Syria takes most of Aleppo

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Backed by Russian airpower, the Army of Syria has made unprecedented advances in the northwestern Aleppo province, which borders Turkey.

The Syria military has brought back most of Aleppo under sovereign control. Russian aircraft targeted terrorist positions there in advance to facilitate government movement on the ground, Press TV reported.

Reuters referred to the towns of Anadan and Haritan as some of the places liberated in the joint counterterrorism push.

There is very rapid advance by the government forces in this area, a London-based war monitor said.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) also said Syrian soldiers had established full control over all areas surrounding Aleppo’s provincial capital of the same name for the first time since 2012. The conquests drove away members of the notorious Takfiri terrorist group of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly known as Al-Nusra Front or Al-Qaeda’s Syria offshoot.

In all, the army liberated 23 villages to the west and north of Aleppo, from where terrorists shelled Aleppo, the country’s second-largest city.

Aleppo’s residents took to the streets afterward in celebration, waving the national flag and honking the horns of their cars.

Prior to the headway, the Syrian military had liberated the M5 Highway between Aleppo and Damascus, the fastest route linking the two cities.

The gains have coincided with similar advances in the neighboring province of Idlib. The province hosts the largest remaining concentration of militants and Takfiri terrorists in the Arab country since foreign-backed militancy began in Syria in 2011.

Turkey, however, has been uneasy with Syria’s progress in Idlib, claiming that the Syrian offensive there killed 13 of its troops this month. It has threatened to attack the Syrian military unless government forces abandoned the liberated areas, and asked Moscow to “stop” Damascus. Ankara has also made unverified claims that it has killed dozens of Syrian soldiers in one alleged retaliatory strike.

At one point, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan even threatened to end its involvement in a peace process for Syria.

Turkey has 12 observation posts in Idlib, set up as part of an Iran-brokered agreement with Russia to de-escalate the situation near the Turkish border. Some of the posts, however, now lie in the territory that has been recaptured in joint Russo-Syrian efforts.

President Bashar al-Assad has said his country is determined to liberate all Syrian land.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said during a briefing at the Munich Security Conference that Turkish and Russian officials would discuss Ankara’s complaints about the Syrian advances in Moscow. Cavusoglu also said he had met with some US lawmakers at the Munich conference and called for Washington’s support.

Also on Sunday, the White House said US President Donald Trump had called Erdogan, conveying Washington’s “desire to see an end to Russia’s support” for Syria.

Turkey has so far sent thousands of troops and many convoys of military equipment to reinforce its presence in northwestern Syria.

Over the past four years, the Turkish military has staged at least two unauthorized incursions into northern Syria. And the US, too, has been leading a number of its allies in establishing an unlawful military presence in the Arab country since 2014.

Turkey Will Never Reach Aleppo

Turkish government takes some actions with an idea of reviving Ottoman Emperor in its mind that it is neither in its current political size nor it matches a structure in a government in line with policies of unity in the Islamic countries.

That Turkish Army by hiring proxy forces in northern areas of Syria launches operation, dubbed Operation Euphrates Shield, against Syrian Army’s positions in the south of occupied town of al-Bab is placed in no framework of peace-seeking in the West Asia region, let alone that the country considers itself as a member of the OIC states.

An evidence to this hostile action with so-called unity-seeking slogan in the Muslim world is that the first pictures from this region show that terrorists occupied a military base in Shaala in suburb of city of Tadef where Russian and Syrian troops’ had checkpoints.

It seems the unfair offensive was conducted in the wake of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s last week threats which came after Syrian Army’s significant advance in Idlib Province. Turkish President in his speech had urged Russian officials to immediately stop Syrian Army’s operation in order to save its under-shelter multi-national terrorists of Tahrir al-Sham and Al-Nusra Front groups.

The terrorists, supported by the West, namely the U.S., Europe and Turkey, have claimed their imaginary operation goal is to take the city of Idlib. It happens while over the past three years and after the end of Operation Euphrates Shield in the region and the pullout of Daesh forces from town of al-Bab, there had been no major confrontation there. Actually Syrian Army troops had been deployed in the city of Tadef in south of town of al-Bab and in the buffer zone between warring forces and they had never breached the agreements or attacked at Turkey’s under-sheltered forces.

Regarding recent outstanding successes of Syrian Army in liberating the strategic town and region of Saraqib in south of Aleppo, it seems probably we would face a crushing response from Syrian Army and Russian Air force against this vivid breach by the Turkish and West supported grouplets.

Influence and domination of Western countries in the United Nations Security Council encouraged the UNSC to draft a resolution against recent Syrian Army’s achievements and Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar Jaafari had a good and rational response to the UNSC double-standard approach.

The UNSC had called for Syria’s immediate ceasefire and halt to operation but Jaafari with a wise response questioned the UNSC decision by saying a ceasefire against the grouplets which have been designated by the UNSC as terrorists is meaningless.

That Turkey and the West with the Zionist regime’s support do not want conflicts in Syria to end is an issue which depends on the expansionist policies of Zionists and that Turkey fan the flames of these policies is surprising and it is a warning to Erdogan government.

Syria should become a safe and peaceful country and Iran and Russia will support this auspicious process. Turkey should also know that Aleppo will never fall to Turkey.

Syrian Army takes two areas in Aleppo

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Syrian army forces have managed to liberate two areas in the northwestern province of Aleppo, which was seized by the terrorists.

Following concentrated operations against terrorists, the Syrian Army liberated the towns of Khan al-Assal, southwest of Aleppo, and al-Rashidin, west of Aleppo.

The latest developments came after Syria’s army units on Monday managed to wrest control of a key highway connecting the capital Damascus to the second-largest city Aleppo for the first time in more than seven years.

The liberation of the M5 motorway, which links the capital Damascus to the major cities of Hama, Homs, and Aleppo, comes on the back of a months-old operation by the Syrian forces to liberate Idlib Province.

Idlib and the area north of Aleppo form part of the only large territory still in the hands of militants. The Syrian military has managed to undo militant gains across the country and bring back almost all of the Syrian soil under government control.

Terrorist attacks kill 6, injure 9 in Syria’s Aleppo

Terrorist groups located in Aleppo’s western countryside fired rocket shells at New Aleppo and Minian neighborhoods in Aleppo city, claiming the lives of six civilians and injuring nine others.

Some of the victims were children, sustaining wounds of varying severity. In addition, the attacks caused considerable material damage to public and private properties.

Earlier in the day, the terrorists positioned in the western parts of Aleppo province fired a rocket shell at the city, and it fell in the surroundings of al-Qasr al-Baladi, injuring a little girl and causing material damage to the place.

Terrorists’ schemes to undermine coop. in Astana format futile

Plans of terrorists in Syria to undermine cooperation in the Astana format and derail agreement on Idleb are futile and doomed to failure, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.

Zakharova reiterated that on November 24 terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra carried out a mortar attack on Aleppo’s residential quarters with shells and chlorine, injuring more than 100 people.

She said that such terrorist works were conducted before to provoke the US-led “coalition” to carry out massive strikes on the Syrian forces, “but now, as we can see, the goal is different: to derail the implementation of Idleb Agreement and destabilize cooperation in the Astana format.”

The Russian Diplomat added that the new Astana meeting on Syria “proved that such plans of terrorists are futile.”

The situation in Idleb is explosive despite the agreement reached last September 17; terrorists are doing their best to derail its implementation,” Zakharov said, concluding that “the scale of provocations carried out by them is unfortunately growing.”

OPCW reviews probe into terrorists’ toxic gas attack on Aleppo

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced that it is reviewing an investigation into terrorist groups’ attack with toxic gases on Aleppo city.

Agence France-Presse quoted the OPCW director-general, Fernando Arias, as saying that The OPCW Secretariat has been monitoring the situation. It has contacted the UN’s security department “in order to assess the security situation on the ground for a possible deployment of the Fact-Finding Mission to Syria.”

“The OPCW’s experts will continue to work independently to verify all allegations of the use of chemicals as weapons in Syria,” Arias told participants at a conference to review the OPCW’s strategy for the next five years.

He added that the meeting discussed the potential of launching an investigation into this attack to find out what exactly happened in the city of Aleppo.

Terrorist organizations positioned in Aleppo countryside fired on Saturday shells containing toxic gases on the neighborhoods of al-Khalidyia, al-Neel Street and Jam’ayat al-Zahra in Aleppo City.

107 civilians suffered asphyxiation due to the terrorist attack.

Iran’s Zarif Lambasts West’s Double Standard on Chemical Attacks

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif decried Western governments’ selective approach to chemical attacks after their refusal to condemn a Sunday chemical attack launched by terrorists on civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

“Where is the West in condemning the chemical attack in Aleppo by terrorists? West’s pattern: chemical weapons only condemned if alleged to be used by an enemy; not an ally. A blind eye turned when Saddam used them against Iran, but war waged to destroy them when he was an enemy,” Zarif said in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday.

Shelling by insurgents wounded more than 100 people, mostly civilians, in the suspected toxic gas attack in Syria’s Aleppo on Sunday.

State news agency SANA said 107 people were injured in Aleppo after militants hit three districts with projectiles containing gases that caused choking.

Iran Condemns Aleppo Chemical Attack

Iran’s Foreign Ministry vehemently denounced a chemical attack launched by terrorists on civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi expressed deep regret and concern over reports of the chemical attack in Aleppo, describing the incident as “inhumane and despicable”.

“The cause of such an inhumane act by terrorist groups is the unflinching intellectual, political, financial and military support provided by some regional and trans-regional states for these groups, which are on the brink of annihilation,” the Foreign Ministry’s website quoted him as saying.
