TEHRAN – President of Turkey’s Trade and Cooperation Council (ATIK) Mr. Aziz Sahin in meeting with Head of Alborz Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Rahim Banamolaei announced readiness of Turkey in participating in renovating the industry in Alborz Province.

Pointing to the potentials of Alborz Province, Mr. Sahin said that the ground is ready for expansion of economic cooperation between Turkey and Alborz Province.

He added that capabilities of Alborz province industries in production and export of types of high quality goods has paved the ground for cooperation between Turkey and the province.

Pointing to the significance of trade ties between Iran and Turkey, Sahin said that ATIK distances itself from political issues but it uses its own policies for their cultural and social activities and the main goal of the council is to have good relations with governments.

He went on to say that ATIK’s job is trade and during the trade some issues like the customs emerge that governments are responsible, so if leaders of governments have good relations, ties will be eased.

Sahin pointed to the negative climate which has been created by the western media against Iran, adding that all those claims are false and Turkey will stand by Iran.

Meanwhile Banamolaei, for his part, announced readiness of industry sector of the province with Turkey, noting that it will lead to development in bilateral economic relations.

He went on to say that Alborz Province with over 3500 industrial units is pioneer in producing and exporting high quality products.

Banamolaei added that the province has unique potentials in producing pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, auto parts, chemical and agro products and it has laid a proper ground for expansion of economic cooperation with regional states.

He also pointed to the high capacity of the province for exports of vegetables, adding that the province exports about 3 contains of vegetable products per day to the Persian Gulf states.

He also pointed to the tourism attraction of the province like Dizin ski piste which is a sport and recreational tourist attraction. He stated that the province welcomes Turkey’s investment in constructing a telecabin or hotels in this region.

Banamolaei pointed to the efficient and suitable regulations on foreign investment which can be a good ground for Turkey’s investment in any industrial and production sectors in the country especially in Alborz Province.

He also said that Payam Special Economic Zone in the province welcomes any investment by Turkish investors especially in organizing the air transportation.

During the operation, three smugglers were arrested, he added, saying that the force is on the move to find other elements of the drug trafficking band.

According to the police chief, the big haul included 1,340 kg opium and 68 kg morphine.

Located near Afghanistan which is one of the main sources of opium production in the world, Iran is on the frontline of the fight against drug trafficking. Iran has lost many forces during this fight. Tehran has always asked for international help in such operations, noting that the other countries, especially European states, should take responsibility and play a positive role in this fight or face its threats themselves. The country has spent more than hundreds of millions of dollars on sealing its borders and preventing the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.

According to the World Drug Report 2019 of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in 2017, Iran had seized the largest quantity of opiates, accounting for 39% of the global total.

“Accompanied by an economic delegation, the Malaysian President is to pay a visit to Iran within a month to increase bilateral trade and economic ties,” he informed.

“In the held meeting, we decided to explore possible and available sectors for improving common economic ties before the Malaysian President’s visit to Iran,” the chamber’s head added.

“We provided the Malaysian commercial attaché with required information about making joint investments, needed guarantees, and etc.,” Bana Molayi said.

He named the banking difficulties and monetary exchange problems caused by the imposed US sanctions on Iran as the major impediments on the way of increasing economic ties with Malaysia.

“As decided in the meeting, the two countries will start swapping goods in case US sanctions remain problematic,” he added.

On July 27, Malaysian ambassador to Iran Dato Rustam bin Yahaya said the grounds are ready for Malaysia’s investment in different industrial fields active in Alborz province.

Alborz province, including 3,600 production and industrial units, some 68,000 hectares of fertile gardens and agricultural lands besides large research and scientific centers, is one of the most productive and scientific hubs of the country. It has the capacity to establish business and economic relation with different countries such as Malaysia.

Over the past four years, more than 200 foreign delegations have visited the Iranian province to investigate economic and trade cooperation.

Over 10 tons of different illicit drugs were seized in Alborz province in the past Iranian year (ended on March 20), which indicates more than 50% increase compared with its past year.

The drugs included over 5.5 tons of opium, close to 2 tons of morphine, 846 kg hashish, and 1,060 kg of other illicit drugs.

Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past four decades.

The country has spent more than $700 million on sealing its borders and preventing the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.

The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Iranian police officers over the past four decades.
