According to the London-based Arabic-language newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi, the scuffles raged on, on Sunday, when the forces evacuated the Bab al-Amoud (Damascus) Gate of the al-Quds’ Old City for a couple of hours.

The forces set up barricades in the area, forcing the Palestinians to start trying to remove the obstacles. As the Palestinians were trying to exert their right to attend the area and perform their religious duties there, they came under fresh Israeli aggression.

At least three Palestinians were arrested, and a number of others suffered injuries during the clashes.

The situation began on Thursday, the start of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. Hundreds of the settlers started roaming the city under Israeli forces’ protection throughout the day, chanting “death to Arabs” and preventing Palestinians from gathering for prayers.

As many as 105 Palestinians were injured during the Thursday scuffles.

Israel that calls the city its “capital,” occupied its western part in 1948 during a hugely Western-backed and -favored war. The regime occupied the Palestinian territory of the West Bank that contains the city’s eastern side during another Western-supported warfare in 1967.

Ever since the wars, Tel Aviv has been trying to tamper with the “status quo” of the al-Aqsa Mosque’s compound, which is one of Islam’s holiest sites. It has also been trying to push the Palestinians away throughout the rest of the occupied territories by setting up hundreds of illegal settlements there, and unbearably restricting the Palestinian freedom of movement.

“Despite the increase of Israeli aggressions, the Palestinian people will no doubt continue to hold March of Return, oppose the deal of the century and counter the Zionist plans to destroy the Palestinian issue. “The recent desecration of the al-Aqsa mosque raises a serious alarm, and the Islamic Ummah has a duty to carry out its responsibility for al-Quds and the al-Aqsa mosque, and counter this fake and declining regime which seeks to destroy the mosque and replace it with the fake Solomon’s Temple,” it continues.

The statement calls on the parliaments of Islamic countries and UN-linked bodies to stand tall against crimes of Zionists and condemn this recent aggression.

In another clear violation of human rights, Israeli regime’s soldiers raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds on Sunday, forcing the Muslims, who were performing the prayers of Eid al-Adha, to leave the mosque.

While people around the world traditionally head to markets several days before the Eid to buy gifts, sweets and new clothes for their families, the impoverished people in Gaza have been marking Eid al-Adha under harsh conditions imposed by the Israeli regime since 2007.

Around two million Palestinians in Gaza are marking another Eid al-Adha holiday this year under difficult conditions due to the Israeli blockade. Like previous years, the festivity is once again marred by rampant poverty and unemployment.

The religious occasion comes at the end of the Hajj Pilgrimage that takes place in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
