Iran Exports $1.5 Billion of Agricultural Products in 5 Months

TEHRAN (Iran News) The country’s export of agricultural products from March 21 to August 22, 2024, has registered a 22 and a 33 percent growth in weight and value respectively, compared to last year’s corresponding period.

In this period, Iran exported various species of pistachios, valued at $352 million, tomatoes ($177 million), apples ($111 million), watermelons ($108 million), and potatoes ($52 million), IRICA reported.

Greenhouse peppers, oranges, pistachios, apples and lettuce were the country’s main agricultural exports.

Iran’s Export of Agricultural Products Rises in 2024: IRICA

TEHRAN (Iran News) –More than 1 million tons of agricultural products, valued at $684 million, were exported from the country in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year, Mohammad Rezvanifar noted.

More than one million tons of agricultural products, valued at $536 million, had been exported from the country in the first two months of the previous year (March 21 to May 20, 2023), the IRICA chief added.

He went on to say that apples ($96.3 million), pistachios with shells ($74.1 million), watermelon ($83.7 million), tomatoes ($50.3 million) and greenhouse tomatoes ($44.7 million) were the main products exported from the country this year, IRIB reported.

A study of the export statistics in the first two months of the current year (March 21 to May 20, 2024) indicates that agricultural products have accounted for about 6.66 percent and 8.53 percent of the total exports of the country in weight and value respectively, Rezvanifar added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Agricultural, foodstuff exports bring Iran $896m of revenues in 2 months. Iran exported over $896 million worth of agricultural and foodstuff products in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-May 21), according to the Deputy Agriculture Minister Ahmad-Ali Keykha.

The official noted that about 1.974 billion tons of such products were exported to foreign destinations in the mentioned two months to register 20 percent and two percent growth in terms of weight and value, respectively.

In the mentioned period, over 4.033 million tons of agricultural and foodstuff products worth $2.202 billion were also imported into the country, according to Keykha.

Watermelons, apples, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and melon were the top five exported products in the said period in terms of weight, while in terms of value, watermelon, pistachios, tomatoes, apples, and dates were the five major exported products.

The official further pointed to the major imported items, noting that corn, wheat, barley, soybean meal, and unrefined sugar were the top imported items in terms of weight during this period, while corn with $334 million of imports, sunflower seed oil with $265 million, soybean meal with $230 million, wheat with $195 million and soybeans with $175 million were the top five imported items in terms of value.

The value of Iran’s non-oil exports reached $6.3 billion in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year, up 48 percent compared to the last year’s same period.

Iran exported 16.9 million tons of non-oil commodities to foreign destinations in the mentioned two months, according to Mehdi Mir-Ashrafi, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

Meanwhile, some 5.3 million tons of goods valued at $6.5 billion were also imported into the country in the said period to register a 26.5-percent rise compared to the last year’s same two months.

The 18th International Agricultural Products, Equipments, Machineries, Foodstuff and Related Industries Exhibition kicked off in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan province, at Permanent Ground For Tabriz International Exhibition Co., on Tuesday.

The exhibition is open until July 07, with the participation of representatives from Oman, Azerbaijan and a number of related companies from across the country at the Amir Kabir Hall of the International Exhibition of Tabriz.

Iran’s agricultural products increase by %25: official

Iranian Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati said on Monday that domestic agricultural products have increased by 25 percent during last five years.

Touching on the growth of agricultural productions, he highlighted that this increase is the result of improving efficiency of planting and irrigation methods.

Hojjati made the remarks on a conference held on the occasion of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought in Ahwaz, Southwestern Khuzestan province.

He went on to say that Iran has allocated some $200 million to combat desertification in Iran.

Managing aquifers, protecting the soil from erosion, improving vegetation and controlling sand and dust storms are among the main guidelines of Agriculture Ministry to fight desertification.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the minister highlighted that planting trees in SDS hotspots is among the most effective measures to fight both SDS and desertification, adding that his ministry welcomes any other idea that can be more influential in this regard.
