TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran and Belarus have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector, Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

Based on the MOU which was signed on the sidelines of the Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Abbas Askarzadeh’s three-day visit to Minsk, trade and commercial relations between the two countries in the fields of agricultural products, horticulture, fisheries, and aquaculture will be expanded.

The agricultural delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Askarzadeh traveled to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, to hold the second working group of the Iran-Belarus Agricultural Cooperation.

On the last day of his visit to the European country, Askarzadeh met with Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko and discussed ways to further expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture.

During the meeting, Askarzadeh officially invited Krupko to visit Iran later this year.

The Belarusian minister also referred to the warm and friendly relations between the two countries and the great potentials of Belarus and Iran for cooperation in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry and called for the implementation of the agreements between the two countries and the removal of existing obstacles to the further expansion of mutual cooperation.

Enumerating Belarus’ capabilities in the agricultural sector as well as dairy and food industries, Krupko said: “The Belarusian government is ready to meet some of the agricultural needs of the Iranian market, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the field of agriculture.”

Pointing to the results of the second joint Iranian-Belarusian agricultural working group, Askarzadeh said: “During a visit to the Belarusian Food Industry Exhibition and a number of dairy factories, agricultural machinery units, and livestock farms, I came to the conclusion that there are unique capacities for developing cooperation and implementing joint projects.”

“Belarus can supply part of Iranian market needs for grains, oilseeds, chicken, eggs, and dairy products and in return, Iran can meet Belarus’ needs for a variety of fish and seafood, fruits, vegetables, and nuts,” he said.

According to IRNA, In January-September 2021 the exchange of food and agricultural products between Iran and Belarus totaled $8 million, 114.5 percent more than the figure for the previous year’s same period.

In remarks at the opening of national agricultural projects in three provinces, held via videoconference on Thursday, Rouhani stressed the need to carry out extraterritorial cultivation programs to boost the crop production output.

Iran can lease or purchase farmland in neighboring countries or even in countries on other continents to cultivate crops and bring the products back home, the president added.

Rouhani said his administration has embarked on extraterritorial cultivation projects in a number of countries and will proceed with the program.

He further highlighted his administration’s success in raising the annual output of agricultural products across the country from 97 million tons to 130 million tons over the past seven years, noting that the water use efficiency has also increased to 45 percent.

In comments in April, Rouhani said the status of agriculture and agricultural production in the country during the current Iranian year would be better than the previous years.

TEHRAN (Iran News)- Tehran and Beijing signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further increase and strengthen mutual agricultural cooperation run by Iranian and Chinese agricultural academic centers and research institutes.

Iran’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Kazem Khavazi and President of the Yanan Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Xuelin Li signed an MoU, on the sidelines of Khavazi’s visit to the Far-Eastern country.

Following the official invitation of the Chinese Academy, Khavazi paid a visit to the Academy’s facilities and laboratories to become familiar with research activities and meet with Xuelin.

In addition to signing the MoU, Khavazi held specialized committees, and reached an agreement with the Chinese side for joint research projects.

Referring to the history and antecedent of bilateral relations between Iran and China, Khavazi recalled for the development of scientific relations within the framework of the Silk Road Restoration Program.

Xuelin, meantime, described the development of the scientific relationship with the Agricultural Education Research and Promotion Organization as an opportunity for scientific enhancement.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides formally signed an MoU on joint agricultural research as they announced their readiness to expand research collaborations.

Within the framework of this MoU, the parties undertook to develop their cooperation in various fields of agricultural research.

According to the report, hybrid seed production of wheat, rice, rapeseed, vegetables, safflower, breeding and processing of tea, tropical fruits, temperate fruits and underground flowers, development of integrated pest and disease management methods are among the most important areas of joint research.

Prior to traveling to China, the delegation members drafted the Action Plan Document on Cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with the title of Proposed Research and Executive Cooperation with China on the basis of our country’s agricultural needs and with a view to reaching a common agreement at meetings.

Iran-China is enjoying broad mutual agricultural cooperation, and the two countries even increased bilateral trade of fishery products after some food providers of china like Saudi Arabia failed to meet health standards.

Late in August, it was announced that China had banned imports of shrimp from Saudi Arabia after finding viruses in food cargos from the kingdom, and granted market access to 40 shrimp exporters from Iran.

The ban was followed by market access being granted to Iranian shrimp exporters, including Daryazad Seafood Products which is headquartered in Bushehr province, producing raw processed and value-added shrimp products.

China is the largest market for Iran which exports some 30,000 tonnes of shrimp a year, London-based global seafood news website Undercurrent News reported.

Iranian veterinary authorities said China endorsed the exporters after they met Chinese laws, regulations and standards, paving the way for direct shipments.
