Iran, China Potential for Aerospace Cooperation; Ambassador Says

TEHRAN (Iran News) – In reaction to the launch of the latest Chinese satellite into space, Iranian Ambassador to China Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh said that there is a lot of potential for aerospace cooperation with China.

In a Monday tweet, Keshavarz-Zadeh wrote, “By launching BeiDou-3 satellite the international coverage and navigation system of the Chinese company was finalized and it put an end to US’ Global Positioning System (GPS) monopoly.”

“Elite Iranian aerospace students in China can be a bridge between the two countries in this field,” he added.

There are currently more than 2,000 Iranian students studying in China, some of them are studying in aerospace field.

China’s BeiDou Navigation Satellite System officially became operational last week.

Iran seeks to export aerospace equipment: IAIO head

Speaking to the Iranian media in Moscow, Russia on Monday, Brigadier General Abdoklarim Banitarafi, head of Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO), said “the products we have brought to Russia are all for export because we seek to demonstrate our export potentials and talk with friendly countries to sell our products.”

The IAIO head said that Iran has many products for export in various fields, but at the Russian air show it will only showcase the products currently available for export.

He added that Iran is in talks with friendly countries of Russia and China etc., especially Muslim countries in a bid to find markets for its aerospace products.

He added that in Iran’s pavilion in the MAKS air show this year, there are different versions of Iranian-made UAVs, including long and short-range models, and an instance of training jet, as well as some instances of plane engines.

Maks International Aviation and Space will be held from August 27 to September 1 in Zhukovsky near the Russian capital of Moscow.

As many as 340 companies including from Iran will be taking part in the event to showcase their latest aerospace and aerial achievements.

Iran, Russia to increase academic aerospace coop.

Hamidreza Taghirad, deputy head of K. N. Toosi University of Technology for international affairs, said that he has held talks with officials of the aerospace center at Moscow State University (MSU) to expand cooperation in fields such as GIS and satellites.

MSU has close cooperation with Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, he said, adding that using their satellite images in fields such as agriculture, water and environment seem to be appropriate for Iran.

“In the meeting with officials of the [Russian] university, we saw eagerness and interest in both sides to establish relations between industrial centers of the two countries. And it was proposed to enhance bilateral cooperation in aerospace fields,” he added.

Iran to take part at regional Space Law Moot Court Competition with 4 teams

Arman Pishini, Head of the Center for International Relations and Cooperation at Iranian Space Agency, said Sunday that Iran’s quota for the 2019 Asia Pacific Regional Rounds of IASLA Space Law Moot Court Competition has raised to four teams following extensive negotiations and according to the country’s last correspondence with the organizers of the regional rounds of the competition.

“Due to having obtained the four-team quota, the Iranian teams are taking part at the national round of the moot court competition in highest of spirits and readiness, and this promises a bright future for our country’s space law,” Pishini stressed.

The national round of the Space Law Moot Court Competition is currently taking place in Iran with six teams in participation.

The IASLA Space Law Moot is an international mooting competition organized annually by the International Air and Space Law Academy. It has regional rounds held in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America.

The Competition provides an opportunity for law students to compete against some of the best law schools in the region as well as the added benefits of networking and interacting with teams from other countries.

The 2019 Asia Pacific Regional Rounds will be held from 9 April to 12 April 2019 in Sydney, Australia.

Teams compete in 4 preliminary rounds in a round-robin format before advancing to the Regional Finals.

The Regional Champions will then advance to the International Finals, scheduled for 1 August 2019 and 2 August 2019 in Luxembourg.
