TEHRAN – Iran national football team players will not wear Adidas after the German sportswear manufacturer has decided to deny Iran with access to its services.

Adidas has decided to follow in Nike’s footsteps.

Nike, who was set to sponsor Team Melli with cleats and footwear throughout the 2018 World Cup, announced that it had withdrawn its support of the team because of global economic sanctions against the country.

In a statement, Nike said, “U.S. sanctions mean that, as a U.S. company, Nike cannot supply shoes to players in the Iranian national team at this time.”

The decision from Nike comes in the wake of the Trump administration’s move to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

Now, the German sportswear manufacturer has denied Iran with access to its services shortly after the 2018 World Cup, where they provided the team’s jerseys.

The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) president Mehdi Taj has accused Adidas of disrespecting the Iranian people and demanded a formal apology from the manufacturer.

Iran national football team, who have been drawn with Iraq, Yemen and Vietnam in Group D of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, will not wear Adidas sportswear in the competition in the UAE.

The CEO of Adidas Kasper Rørsted said that it would be wrong for sporting companies to be directly engaged in politics.

The Danish CEO of adidas told RT on Saturday that it’s important for his company and others to realize they’re in the business of sport, not politics.

He went on to explain that the Iranian team is one of 12 teams being sponsored by adidas. That’s despite the fact that Nike pulled out of supplying their shoes because of US sanctions.

“We equip the Iranian team because a lot of Iranians love football, and at the end of the day we believe in sport, we believe that through sport we have the power to change lives. If we start being a political engine then we don’t actually have the freedom to do what we want to do and that’s really making people’s lives better,” he added.

Prior to World Cup 2018, the American company Nike announced it would not be providing equipment to Iranian players due to the U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran.

“US sanctions mean that, as a US company, Nike cannot supply shoes to players in the Iranian national team at this time,” a company statement said, TehranTimes reported.

Describing Nike’s statement as “absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary,” Iran National Football Team coach Carlos Quieroz had lamented the announcement and asked FIFA to enter this issue. “Players get used to their sports equipment, and it’s not right to change them a week before such important matches,” he added.

After all these controversies, Iran faced Morocco at their first game and secured a 1-0 win over the top African team. Iranian users of social media creatively changed the slogan of Nike to “We just did it without you,” to criticize the statement of the American company.

Almost every nation have now unveiled their home and away kits for the 2018 World Cup, but Iran’s kit has not been unveiled yet.

The new design, which has been published on some Iranian social media, resembles undershirt, however Iran Football Federation has not confirmed that, TeamIran.net reported.

With less than two months left until the start of the 2018 World Cup, the Iranian federation and kit supplier Adidas have not unveiled Team Melli’s kit and the federation has received criticism from fans about the delay when other nations are being supplied.

Endangered Asiatic Cheetah was imprinted on Team Melli’s jersey during the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, but it seems the image will not be stamped on Iran’s kit in the 2018 World Cup.

Carlos Queiroz’s team have been drawn in Group B of the 2018 World Cup along with Spain, Morocco and Portugal. The Iran national football team will open the campaign with a match against Morocco at Saint Petersburg on June 15.

Adidas Boost is 5 years old! I know, right? When this running-specific trainer tech first appeared way back in 2013, you probably said, “Well, this looks kind of like polystyrene, can’t see it catching on, any more than Adidas Spring Blade, from 2013 did.”

Shows what YOU know, homes. With Yeezy Boost and NMD helping propel the energy-returning sole to the catwalks and urban streets, and runners loving it, Boost is everywhere. And now the 5 years of Boost anniversary pack is here with the Energy Boost OG, Energy Boost and UltraBoost (limited-edition).

To celebrate the big 5, the running shoe that launched the Boost line (Energy Boost) has been updated and re-released in its original black and yellow, bee-flavoured colour-way.

Also in the anniversary pack are “Adidas’ most iconic and loved silhouettes”, the Energy Boost OG, Energy Boost and UltraBoost LTD.

Boost refers to the aforementioned, home-tech-packaging-material-esque material in the sole. It adds lightweight cushioning technology and excellent energy return “for every single stride,” and has been worn by everyone from marathon world record-breakers, Mary Keitany and Dennis Kimetto to demented rhythmic shouting genius, Kanye West.

These shoes all have Boost gas in the sole and midsole – in fact there is “85% more” of it in the new Energy Boost than was in that first shoe, way back in 2013 – to store and return “superfast, lightweight energy” but it’s the silhouette of the shoes that probably really ensured their success.

Also on board and trampled underfoot:

• “Improved and simplified midfoot construction combined with a lighter cage for a more accommodating fit.”

• “Updated Torsion System for a smoother landing and midfoot support push-off.”

• “Enhanced Techfit with a foot-hugging upper with zoned elastic support in the forefoot, identified using Aramis research and testing, provides superior comfort and a snug feel.”

• “Stretchweb is new to the Energy silhouette, with a Continental rubber outsole adapting to every runner’s foot strike by moving in harmony with Boost to provide a smoother, more flexible and enhanced grip.”

They all look suitably iconic and edgy, five years on, in stark contrast to your haircut from that year.
