Leader Urges Boosting University, Industry Ties

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution has pointed to the need to continue the path of increasing ties between the university and industry in the country.

His remarks came on Monday in a short message to the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in response to a report earlier sent to the Leader by the Ministry. The report points to the performance of the university sections and research institutes in the area of boosting ties with industry during the year 1398 (March 2019 – March 2020).

“The issue of relations between university and industry is very important. What has been done are the initial steps of a major movement. They should Keep up the work with power, God willing,” reads Ayatollah Khamenei’s message.

Part of the Ministry’s report notes that the number of contracts inked between universities and industries has increased from 4723 in the year 1397 to 8002 in 1398 while their value also enhanced by almost 100%.

The report also points to different strategies and approaches adopted by the Ministry to promote the mentioned area.

Iran, US to hold joint academic training course

Iran’s University of Tehran (UT) and the United States’ Purdue University will hold a joint training course on engineering, said UT’s Director General for International Relations.

Abdolmajid Eskandari told IRNA on Saturday that a joint training course on electrical, mechanical and computer engineering will be held by University of Tehran and Purdue University in Indianapolis (IUPUI).

Academic diplomacy differs from political ties and scientists are always in pursuit of promoting academic cooperation internationally, he highlighted, adding that scientific ties have a positive effect on political trends.

Since the Chancellor of Purdue University in Indianapolis is an Iranian [referring to Nasser Paydar], academic exchanges between the two universities have reached an appropriate level during past two years, Eskandari added.

Admitting that US sanctions against Iran has caused problems for obtaining visa, he said that all scientists believe that scientific endeavors are for defending the humankind and it should be followed regardless of politics.

He went on to say that UT will additionally hold joint training courses with Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Netherland’s Erasmus University Rotterdam, adding that there also plans for boosting academic cooperation with France’s ENSAM (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers) and Swede’s Lund University.

Iran Japan eye increased academic coop.

Iran and Japan are trying to boost their academic cooperation and in the first step, the MoU between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Japan’s Juntendo University will soon be implemented, said Nader Riahi-Alam, the official link between Tehran University of Medical sciences and Japanese universities.

Recognizing the grounds and potentials of bilateral academic ties, facilitating cooperation with various academic centers in Japan and pursuing previous MoUs are among the main objectives in this regard, he added.

He went on to say that Iran is eager to use the experience and courses provided by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

Holding joint scientific conferences in health issues, providing the necessary conditions for exchange of students and professors, and creating standard laboratories in Iranian universities are other fields of cooperation which will be discussed with Japanese officials, he highlighted.

Iran, Spain universities ink MoU to boost academic ties

Iran’s University of Zanjan and Spain’s Universidad de Jaén (University of Jaén) signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in academic realm.

Exchanging of professors and students are among the main objectives of this MoU. The parties also highlighted the effect of bilateral cooperation on cultural and social growth of universities.

Located in southern Andalusia, University of Jaén provides 17,000 students with 40 various disciplines in both English and Spanish.

University of Zanjan is situated in northwestern Zanjan province is among the biggest universities of Iran with more than 10,000 student.
