Iran, Italy to Operate Joint Research Projects

TEHRAN (Iran News)- Iran Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (IMSRT) and Italy National Research Council (CNR) are planning to increase their academic cooperation withholding joint research projects.

IMSRT’s Director-General for Research and Technology Affairs Abdolsadeh Neisy said on Sunday that plans are underway to boost cooperation between Iran and Italy in science and research projects.

He added that “establishing a joint workgroup with CNR – which is the highest research council of Italy – is high on the agenda of the Iranian Science Ministry.”

The official noted that joint meetings have been held in this regard to explore the common interests of both sides.

According to Neisy, the upcoming meetings will be held, with the participation of a number of Iranian and Italian university professors to discuss their main concerns, including technology transfer as well as sharing research knowledge and expertise between the two countries’ academia.

Iran and Italy have held longstanding ties in academic and scientific fields. The first edition of Iran–Italy Science, Technology and Innovation Forum was held in Tehran in 2017. The event covered a wide range of topics, discussions and a platform on boosting scientific, economic and cultural exchanges between Italy and Iran.

Iranian universities have established broad academic cooperation with counterparts from different countries.

Last month, Polish Ambassador to Iran Maciej Falkowski, in a visit to the Tehran-based Amir Kabir University of Technology (AUT), voiced his country’s eagerness to expand academic cooperation with Iranian universities.

In October, a senior delegation from Iran’s Islamic Azad University (IAU) sealed agreements with a number of German universities and academic centers to launch joint programs for training professional engineers.

In September, the University of Gilan and Azerbaijan’s Technical University sealed an agreement to broaden academic cooperation and run joint research projects.

Earlier in September, Iran’s Tehran University and the Beijing-based Communication University of China (CUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further increase academic cooperation in areas of exchanging students and professors as well as establishing joint cooperation in research-based fields.

In August, Payam Nour University, Iran’s leading academic center in distance learning, and Thailand’s Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University sealed an agreement to expand bilateral academic cooperation in diverse.

Late in June, An Iranian research center, Iranian Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies (IIHCS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a German university, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), to conduct joint research projects and expand academic cooperation, as the two countries have reached countless agreements of similar content in the past couple of years.

Early in June, Iranian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Majid Saber and Kazakh Minister of Education and Science Kulyash Nogataevna Shamshidinova, in a meeting on Friday, discussed promoting scientific and educational cooperation.

In May, officials of Iranian Technical and Vocational University and German University of Applied Sciences exchanged views on ways to broaden academic and educational cooperation and vowed to increase bilateral ties with exchange programs and joint projects.

Also in May, Tehran and Tbilisi studied avenues to broaden bilateral relations in academic and scientific fields, between the two countries’ universities.

Iran-Uruguay Technological Cooperation to Expand

TEHRAN (Iran News)- Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and Uruguay’s Ministry of Education and Culture will increase joint efforts in areas of research, technology, and exchange of teachers. Due to these efforts, Iran-Uruguay technological cooperation will be expanded.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and Uruguay’s Ministry of Education and Culture on Friday.

The MoU was signed by Uruguay’s Ministry of Education and Culture, Maria Julio Munioz, and Iranian Ambassador to Uruguay Abolfazl Pasandideh on behalf of the Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology.

Exchanging professors and researchers, conducting research projects jointly in the field of science, organizing joint specialized scientific commissions, holding courses on teaching Persian and Spanish languages in academic and scientific centers of the two countries were some of the areas for cooperation noted in the MoU.

Upon signing the MoU, Munioz pointed to the high capabilities and capacities of Iran in scientific and technological fields, voicing her country’s readiness to make use of Iran’s scientific capacities.

For his part, Pasandideh pointed to the 117-year long history of bilateral ties between Iran and Uruguay and termed Uruguay as an old and trusted country for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Organizing traditional Iranian music concerts in artistic and cultural centers and various universities of Uruguay, organizing the Nowruz Exhibition, a symbol of peace and friendship and introducing Iran’s tourist attractions were of the most important cultural activities of Iran in Uruguay taken in the past two years, the ambassador added.

Iran’s Allameh uni., Lebanese unis. to expand scientific coop.

The Social and Cultural Deputy of Allameh Tabataba’i University Vahid Shalchi said on Tuesday that a group of faculty members from Lebanese universities visited the university, hopping that this meeting will lead to expansion of cooperation between Allameh Tabataba’i and Lebanese universities.

Emphasizing the extensive political relations between Iran and Lebanon, he mentioned that the importance of developing relations at other fields, including academic and scientific collaboration is essential for the two countries.

Referring to the latest signed MoU between Allameh Tabataba’i and Lebanese universities, Shalchi said that he hopes that these partnerships will be expanded so that two sides become more familiar with each other’s academic and scientific capacities.

Confirming the high level of scientific competence of Iranian universities and their development in recent years, the Lebanese faculty members expressed their willingness to expand scientific relations, especially in the field of humanities and social sciences.

World’s top universities to set up branch offices in Iran

He revealed the bylaw ratified by the Cabinet of Ministers for setting up university, faculty and also research centers in Iran in cooperation with world’s top universities jointly.

Turning to the launch of branch of domestic universities in abroad periodically, he added, “currently, branch offices of nationwide universities, Payam-e Noor (distance learning) and Azad universities have been set up abroad, some of which are busy active in relevant field.”

He further pointed to the launch of 18 joint branches in abroad and added, “about 18 independent branches of domestic universities have been set up in abroad jointly, the issue of which is one of the policies followed up by the Ministry of Science.”

He once again reiterated that the bylaw for setting up university, faculty and research centers with world’s top universities jointly has been approved at the Cabinet of Ministers, adding, “we hope that relevant Working Group will be launched within the next month.”

Currently, representatives from different responsible organizations have been introduced for this purpose, he added.

Iran, Russia to increase academic aerospace coop.

Hamidreza Taghirad, deputy head of K. N. Toosi University of Technology for international affairs, said that he has held talks with officials of the aerospace center at Moscow State University (MSU) to expand cooperation in fields such as GIS and satellites.

MSU has close cooperation with Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, he said, adding that using their satellite images in fields such as agriculture, water and environment seem to be appropriate for Iran.

“In the meeting with officials of the [Russian] university, we saw eagerness and interest in both sides to establish relations between industrial centers of the two countries. And it was proposed to enhance bilateral cooperation in aerospace fields,” he added.

Iran’s AUT, Harvard uni.’ joint book published

IUST hosts Iran, Germany academic projects’ coordination meeting

Deputy Chancellor of Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) for Intl. Affairs Shahriar Shah-Hosseini on Sunday expounded on the historical trend of formation of joint academic cooperation between Islamic Republic of Iran and Germany and said, “given the economic and sanctions condition, effective steps should be taken in this regard optimally. Also, universities as commissioners of project should play a leading role for providing resources in implementing the project.”

Although selected projects have a pivotal executor in each university, capacities and potentials of all universities should be used optimally in order to promote it [selected project] in national level, he emphasized.

A sample of contract, that should be signed with the German side, has been specified, so that contracts between Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) and executor university are inked with mentioning the title of executor, he said, adding, “finding visible achievements is the main objective with the aim of developing interactions.”

Finally, it was agreed that executors of each of the seven selected projects will inform the possibility of execution of projects in new terms and conditions within the next week, he added.

Iran’s Amirbakir, Russia’s St. Petersburg Univs. to expand academic coop.

For this reason, a delegation from St. Petersburg State Transport University visited Amirkabir University of Technology on Monday in line with developing and boosting joint cooperation.

Enhancing joint bilateral cooperation between the two academic centers in relevant field has been cited as the main objective of this visit.

Ahmad Motamedi Chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology, for his part, stated, “the academic delegation paid a visit to various departments of Amirkabir University of Technology including Technology Tower and Civil Engineering Faculty and was briefed on the activities and performance of the departments.”

Amirkabir University of Technology has cooperated and collaborated with these academic centers in the industrial field, setting up joint center in research field, launching tutorial workshops, joint projects and online laboratories in the field of education, exchanging university students, etc.

St. Petersburg State Transport University is one of the old and famous academic centers in Russia, so that Amirkabir University of Technology will launch joint cooperation and collaboration with this academic center in future, the chancellor added.

He went on to say that his university is active in the field of applied research and technology such as rails, roads and bridges.

In this meeting, Russian delegation emphasized on accelerating joint academic cooperation with Amirkabir University of Technology.

Iran, Hungary universities to boost academic coop.

Head of scientific and international cooperation group of Yazd University, Mohammad Ali Haddad said that the conference will focus on topics such as the higher education system in Iran and Hungary, the internationalization experiences of universities, the opportunities for joint training courses and the exchange of professors and students.

“Technology and Innovation, the methods of the scientific and international cooperation and the opportunities and areas of joint university research of Iran and Hungary are among the other aspects of the conference,” he added.

Iran to Increase joint courses with foreign universities: official

One of the programs that is being pursued by the science ministry is to communicate with different countries in the current year, koohian said, adding, “we want to establish branches in Yemen and Lebanon, in addition to granting scholarship to some students of these countries.”

Iran will also offer different MoU to Syria and Iraq to create branches of Iranian universities in these countries and also to support research opportunities.

“We have held a meeting with Malaysian authorities that there will be joint projects in addition to the exchange of students,” deputy science minister for scientific cooperation added.

He went on to say that exchanging of professors and holding joint projects with European countries such as Germany, France, and Italy will also be continued.

Koohian noted that Iranian scientists can show the countries capabilities by holding science day in different countries.

“Increasing the number of international students in our country is one of our other policies in this year,” he added.
