“Iran will not make any special concession (in its 25-year roadmap with China), and reports about handing over Iranian islands to China are a sheer lie,” Member of National Security Commission in the Parliament Mahmood Abbaszadeh said on Thursday.

The Iranian lawmaker added that Iran is determined to enhance its mutual ties with China in various sectors, including energy, economy, and technology.

The Tehran-Beijing agreement was first announced in a joint statement during a visit to Tehran by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2016.

The cooperation roadmap consists of 20 articles, covering Tehran-Beijing ties in “Political,” “Executive Cooperation,” “Human and Cultural,” “Judiciary, Security and Defense,” and “Regional and International” domains, according to the statement released back then.

The roadmap is expected to enable such a level of coordination between Tehran and Beijing that could eat away at Washington’s sway in the region and further frustrate its attempts at isolating Tehran.

Majid Reza Hariri said that the two countries are complementary in economic exchanges and today, the country needs sustainable financing and participating in all-out exchanges.

Conclusion of a 25-Year Cooperation Document with the People’s Republic of China can materialize the said objective, he stressed, according to IRNA.

The signing of this cooperation agreement between Iran and China is bilateral, he said, adding, “on the one hand, China wants the energy that the Islamic Republic of Iran is able to supply and Iran can take advantage of Chinese technologies on the other hand.”

Cooperating in the field of transferring energies like oil, gas, petrochemical, and mines constitutes the main framework of Iran’s economic agreement with China in the short- and long-term, he said, adding, “presently, about 70% of oil, mineral and nonmetallic products, as well as 27 percent of non-oil exports of the country, is traded with China without this agreement.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hariri pointed to China as Iran’s first trade partner in the field of exports and added, “Iran’s current economic situation needs the development of infrastructures and China can help Iran in this field greatly, for, China is the largest buyer of reserves in most mineral and energy products in the world.”

He pointed to a negative wave of media hype and positions of Western countries and the United States on the signing of a 25-year agreement between Iran and China and said, “these oppositions indicate that signing this agreement will be in Iran’s favor.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A former Iranian ambassador to China said the East Asian nation would guarantee to buy Iran oil for 25 years as part of a long-term partnership deal that is being negotiated between the two parties.

Mehdi Safari said on Sunday that China is looking for a reliable supplier of energy as its imports of oil have more than doubled in six years to reach 11 million barrels per day, Press TV reported.

Safari said China is already importing nearly half of its oil needs, around 5.5 million bpd, from the Persian Gulf region where Iran has the most dominant presence due to the stretch of its coasts.

“China says that it will guarantee, as part of a mutual guarantee, to buy Iran oil for the next 25 years,” Safari told Tasnim News Agency.

He said a main reason for Beijing to seek a long-term energy partnership with Iran is the pressure imposed by the United States on China in the South East Asia region, prompting it to increasingly look westward to revive the so-called New Silk Road through territories like Iran.

Safari said the comprehensive partnership deal with China could entail many benefits for Iran as well, including a surge in arrivals of Chinese tourists into the country.

“The Chinese send 250 million tourists (to other countries) each year. If only one million of them arrive in Iran, that would deeply change our economy,” said the former envoy.

Neither Iran nor China have given any concrete details about a potential long-term agreement that has yet to be finalized.

However, leaks have suggested that China would invest around $400 billion in Iran’s energy and infrastructure sectors over 25 years in return for taking delivery of a stable supply of energy from Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A senior Iranian Foreign Ministry official slammed a “disinformation” campaign that seeks to stoke fears about the impacts of a potential deal between Iran and China.

In remarks published on Saturday, Reza Zabib, a foreign minister aide for South Asia, dismissed “the hypothetical figures” reported in the media about Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, saying nothing has yet been finalized about the deal.

“The objective of those who spread this disinformation is to destroy the (bilateral) relations, to prevent the signing of the deal and to pile accusations on the (Iranian) government and system,” said Zabib.

The Iranian diplomat also said that scaremongering about the deal is an attempt by certain political elements inside Iran to extract information about the deal and to force the Iranian government to disclose more information about the ongoing talks with China.

He said that Iran and China are now in agreement about at least 75 percent of the terms of a draft deal that was proposed by Iran during a visit to Beijing last year by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zabib said that the Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will allow the two countries to expand ties in three main fields of politics, military, and economy.

He said that the economic part of the agreement would cover a wide range of areas, including energy, technology, and infrastructure.

Zabib’s comments come against the backdrop of criticism suggesting that Iran has offered major discounts on its future sales of oil to China in return for Beijing’s long-term and sizable investment in the country.

Iranian authorities have dismissed the claims while also insisting that the potential deal with China would not be attempt to offset the failure of a 2015 nuclear agreement involving major Western powers.

Zabib said China has always been a major economic partner for Iran, even at the times of normal relations between Tehran and some Western countries.

Iranian president’s chief of staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, also dismissed as “illusions” some speculations about the 25-year cooperation agreement with China, saying the roadmap does not entail foreign control on Iranian islands or the presence of military forces by any means.

Vaezi said the 25-year agreement with China defines a roadmap to mutual cooperation without any discussion about Iran’s southern islands or deployment of military forces.

The media speculations about the deal are just “illusions and rumors” spread by certain parties who try to disrupt Iran’s relations with China, he said.

Vaezi said the frameworks of the agreement have been defined, but it has not been finalized yet.

Any binding agreement must be ratified by the Iranian Parliament, so that nothing would be hidden from the country’s legal bodies, he underlined, assuring the people that the agreement with China would comply with the Iranian Constitution.

Press TV and Tasnim contributed to this story.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry offered a description of a 25-year cooperation deal with China, saying some rumors about the document are so ridiculous that do not even merit a denial.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi on Wednesday released a statement in response to a barrage of false claims raised in the virtual space about the roadmap to 25-year cooperation between Iran and China.

“According to a 2016 agreement between the presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People’s Republic of China, stipulated in the Article VI of the communiqué during the honorable Chinese president’s visit to Tehran, the two countries have explicitly expressed their political determination to promote and deepen the relations strategically and decided to devise a comprehensive 25-year roadmap between the two countries to become the basis for the coherent and all-out expansion of the political and economic relations between Iran and China in the years to come,” he said.

“The preliminary draft of the document has been prepared with the participation of specialized institutions from the two countries and is currently undergoing the negotiation stage. Naturally, after finalization of the negotiations, the document will be submitted to the representatives of people in the Parliament for legal procedures.”

Mousavi also pointed to the “hostile and nervous” reaction from the US Department of State’s spokesperson, adding, “Undoubtedly, the strategic relations between Iran and China that entail mutual key interests for the people of the two countries have enemies who will make every effort for the failure of these negotiations and lack of success of the document.”

He further dismissed as ridiculous the claims about a lease on the Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf, a monopoly on the sale of oil at low prices, or deployment of armed forces, saying such claims do not even merit a denial.

“Fulfillment of Iran’s national interests has been the only guiding principle for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in devising the strategic document, and the negotiations have been held with utmost carefulness and meticulousness, and the people of Iran will soon observe its results, God willing.”

The spokesperson also expressed hope that the cooperation document would be finalized in the near future, stressing, “Naturally, no other text would be valid before the finalization of negotiations. Therefore, the media are urged to refrain from republishing the texts that are prepared and disseminated with various purposes and objectives.”

In remarks on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said everything about a 25-year cooperation agreement with China is clear and the two countries have nothing to hide about it.

He also noted that Tehran will make the contents of the agreement public.
