TEHRAN (Iran News) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks when receiving participants of the 8th summit of the 5th round of the Assembly of Experts which was held on Monday.

The Islamic Republic will not step back from its logical positions on the nuclear issue and Iran will increase uranium enrichment to 60% if needed, the Supreme Leader underlined.

He reiterated that the Islamic Republic will not retreat from its rational stance on the nuclear issue and will pursue enriching uranium to the extent that is required for the interest of the country even up to 60 percent enrichment.

Commenting on the strategic law of sanctions removal passed by Majlis, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that the law should be carefully followed as it is “good”.

He advised the Iranian lawmakers (parliamentarians) and the government to cooperate in unison.

The result of this will be nothing but being obnoxious, Supreme Leader further noted.

Pointing to a recent law ratified by the Iranian parliament obliging the administration of President Hassan Rouhani to scale back some of its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Supreme Leader asserted that the parliament ratified a law and the administration welcomed; they carried out some works that should be done until yesterday and hopefully, another part of the law will be implemented tomorrow.

He further referred to interpretation of the parliament from the way the administration is doing his job in this respect, noting that such differences can be resolved and the two sides should cooperate and avoid escaping or escalating such differences, which could be interpreted as a divide in the country.

The administration considers itself obliged to implement laws and the legislature which is a good law should be implemented carefully, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution emphasized.

He also described recent comments made by the US and three European states on Iran as arrogant, bullying, and unfair.

The rhetoric made by the US and three European countries on Iran’s scaling back of its obligations concerning the nuclear deal is the wrong attitude, Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that the Islamic Republic complied with its commitments based on the Islamic teachings from day one until a long period, but the other parties who did not abide by their obligations were these four states; thus, they should be held accountable for their behavior.

The Supreme Leader further said that such behavior will make them more pariah in the eyes of the Iranian people.

He went on to say, the US withdrew from the JCPOA and other signatories to the deal collaborated with the Americans in this respect; so, the Holy Quran teaches that the Islamic Republic must abandon the agreement, although, the respectful Iranian government did not relinquish the commitments, it gradually scaled back parts of the obligations, which are reversible if the other signatories carry out their end of the bargain.

Meanwhile, the clown Zionist regime is permanently saying that they will not allow Iran to attain nuclear weapons; however, it should be said if the Islamic Republic had decided to attain atomic bomb, the Zionists and the bigger powers could not have been capable of getting in the way of the Iranians, he added.

The Islamic tenets are the ones that are prohibiting the production of nuclear arms for the Islamic Republic, because any weapons including nuclear or chemical ones, which lead to the death of people and destruction, are forbidden based on Islamic values, the Supreme Leader noted.

Recalling the massacre of more than 220,000 people following the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during World War II as well as the ongoing siege of Yemen and the daily pounding of markets, hospitals, and schools in the war-torn country, Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the killing of civilians is the method of the Americans and Westerners, which is not acceptable by the Islamic Republic; therefore, Tehran does not think about nuclear weapons.

But the Iranian government is determined to have nuclear capabilities proper to the requirements of this big country; so, the level of uranium enrichment will not be limited to 20 percent and the amount may increase to 60 percent for nuclear propellants or other activities, he added.

The Supreme Leader also said that there is a multi-year contract between Iran and the six world powers and if they abide by their obligations, Iran will comply with its commitment; however, the Westerners are well aware that Iranians do not seek nuclear weapons.

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the issue of a nuclear weapon is a pretext, they oppose Iran’s access to conventional weapons, because they want to prevent Iran from attaining any kind of military might.

Noting that nuclear power plants can provide the world nations with cheaper and cleaner energy and they will turn into one of the main sources of energy in the near future, he underlined that Iran needs to start enriching uranium today to meet its requirements in this regard because tomorrow is late.

The West wants Iran to be in need of the Westerners whenever the Islamic country requires nuclear energy in a bid to use the need as a tool to impose their bullying and ransom policies on the Islamic Republic, he warned.

The Islamic Republic will not back down on nuclear issues as it has done in other issues and it will continue the path based on the country’s interests and needs, the Leader stated.

The meeting was held observing health protocols in Imam Khomeini Mosque, downtown Tehran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Tel Aviv opposes any return to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, While the Israeli regime, in line with its meddlesome policies, has been struggling to back talks on a new Iran nuclear deal, it has changed its position, saying that Tel Aviv opposes any and all versions of such a deal. contrary to the impression recent statements may have made, a senior official at the office of the regime’s Prime Minister told the English-language daily newspaper the Jerusalem Post.

“Israel is unequivocal that under no circumstances should there be a return to that bad deal,” the official said.

The meddlesome comments came less than a week after AFP published an interview with Israeli Ambassador to Germany Jeremy Issacharoff with the headline: “Israel open to German efforts to expand Iran nuclear deal with more restrictions.”

In what appears a clear change of stance, the senior Prime Minister’s Office official said Issacharoff’s remarks were misinterpreted and sought to make amply clear that Tel Aviv’s position is that the JCPOA is unacceptable, even with changes.

Repeating the threadbare claims, he said “Israel firmly believes that there should be no return to the Iran nuclear agreement of 2015 – a deal which is flawed to its foundations.”

In July 2015, Iran and six world powers – the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany – inked an agreement officially named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The JCPOA, which was the outcome of numerous rounds of negotiations, was ditched by Trump in May 2018, in pursuit of what he called the maximum pressure policy against the Islamic Republic. The US also reinstated the sanctions that had been lifted against Iran.

Earlier in December, as many as 150 US House Democrats called on Democratic president-elect, Joe Biden, to rejoin the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, in a move completely antithetical to outgoing President Donald Trump’s unilateral exit from the multilateral agreement.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said since the US government is no more a party to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, it has no right to trigger a snapback mechanism to invoke the UN sanctions against Tehran.

“Germany, France and the United Kingdom remain committed to preserving and fully implementing the JCPOA. This agreement is currently the only instrument we have to keep Iran’s nuclear ambitions verifiably contained under robust international oversight. We urge Iran to refrain from any further JCPOA violations. On the contrary, Iran should take concrete practical steps towards full compliance with its nuclear commitments,” Maas told Al-Araby al-Jadeed in an interview published on Sunday.

He added, “Our position on snapback is very clear: Only JCPOA participants may notify the UN Security Council of significant non-performance of commitments under the JCPOA by Iran. The US left the agreement in 2018 and therefore no longer has a right to trigger the mechanism called ‘snapback’. We have taken note of the sanctions the US administration has re-imposed on Iran and we have expressed our regret in this regard. We also decided not to join its ‘maximum pressure’ campaign. EU sanctions against Iran remain lifted to the extent required under the JCPOA. This, in turn, also means that the EU arms embargo remains in force until 2023″.

The United Kingdom, France, and Germany, all signatories to the JCPOA, say the US does not have the legal right to trigger “snapback” sanctions because it pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal in 2018.

Russia and China, the other two JCPOA parties, have also strongly expressed their opposition to the US request.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Britain’s Minister for Industry and Business Nadhim Zahawi said his country is “working hard” to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, aka JCPOA, despite Washington’s efforts to undermine it.

“The UK strongly supports the JCPOA and is working hard to preserve the agreement given its importance to non-proliferation and security,” Zahawi said on Monday addressing the 64th International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference.

He added, “… we are grateful to the Director General for his dedication in monitoring this agreement”.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Saturday that all UN sanctions against Iran were “back in effect” under the so-called snapback provision in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Pompeo said last month that he triggered a 30-day process at the council leading to the return of UN sanctions on Iran on Saturday evening that would also stop a conventional arms embargo on Tehran from expiring on Oct. 18.

But 13 of the 15 Security Council members say Washington’s move is void because Pompeo used a mechanism agreed under a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, which the United States quit in 2018.

Washington argues it triggered the return of sanctions – known as “snapback” – because a UN resolution that enshrines the pact still names it as a participant. Diplomats say few countries are likely to reimpose the measures lifted under the 2015 deal.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The US will definitely suffer another defeat in its desperate attempt to use a mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal to reinstate the UN sanctions on Iran, President Hassan Rouhani said, noting that the UNSC and the JCPOA members are opposed to Washington’s bid.

Speaking at a Wednesday session of the cabinet, Rouhani said the JCPOA Joint Commission announced explicitly at a Tuesday meeting in Vienna that the US has no right to abuse the JCPOA, from which it withdrew in 2018.

The rotating president of the UN Security Council has also supported Iran against the US’ bid to re-impose the sanctions, the president added, referring to a recent telephone conversation with his Nigerien counterpart.

Despite this global opposition, the US has launched the “futile and childish” initiative to resort to the JCPOA snapback mechanism, Rouhani said. “The US will certainly suffer another defeat at this stage, and the claims that they make are completely unfounded and baseless.”

Highlighting the US’ humiliating defeat at the UN Security Council after its proposed resolution on the extension of an arms embargo on Iran was rejected, the president said anybody familiar with the basics of politics is aware that no party is allowed to resort to an agreement after withdrawal from it.

Last month, 13 countries of the 15-member council rejected the US push to trigger the so-called snapback provision in the 2015 nuclear deal, leaving Washington once again isolated on the issue like never before.

UNSC Resolution 2231, which enshrined the JCPOA, states that if no council member has put forward a draft resolution to extend sanctions relief on Iran within 10 days of a non-compliance complaint, then the body’s president shall do so within the remaining 20 days.

The document, however, says the Security Council would “take into account the views of the states involved.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has claimed that all UN sanctions against Iran will be reinstated on September 20 after the US “activated the snapback mechanism.”

However, the claim was strongly condemned by other signatories of the nuclear deal including the EU, Russia and China.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi in a message referred to his Tuesday meeting with visiting Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi in Vienna, saying cooperation between Iran and the IAEA must continue.

“Good to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran @araghchi after my visit to Tehran. Our work must continue,” Grossi wrote in his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Araqchi arrived in Vienna on Monday to attend the JCPOA Joint Commission meeting which will was held today, IRNA reported.

Iran and the IAEA released a joint statement on August 26 in which they stressed agreement to further reinforce their cooperation and enhance mutual trust to facilitate the full implementation of Iran’s Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA) and the Additional Protocol (AP) thereto, which is provisionally applied by Iran since 16 January 2016.

Based on the statement, the IAEA will continue to take into consideration Iran’s security concerns, by protecting all safeguards confidential information in accordance with the IAEA Statute, the relevant provisions of the CSA and the AP, and the established IAEA confidentiality regime, standards and procedures.

Grossi’s recent visit to Tehran was faced with Western pre-meditated media hype in the aftermath of the US defeated approach with the UN Security Council on the so-called snapback of the UN sanctions on Iran.

Earlier on Tuesday, Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid in a tweeted message hailed the unity of participants of a Joint Commission meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which was held in Vienna.

“Just finished chairing #JCPOA Joint Commission,” Schmid wrote on her Twitter account adding, “Important to see that participants are united in resolve to preserve the #IranDeal and find a way to ensure full implementation of the agreement despite current challenges.”

The meeting was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers and directors general of foreign ministries of the JCPOA participant states. Iran was represented by Araqchi.

Araqchi has earlier said that the meeting of JCPOA Joint Commission was significant regarding to the US attempts to restore UN sanctions to annihilate the JCPOA.

Referring to the fact that the UNSC members have opposed the US draft resolution to invoke snapback clause of the JCPOA, Araqchi said the US attempts will definitely be an important discussion in the meeting.

The US has illegally called for the reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Thursday that Washington will return all UN sanctions against Iran “at midnight Sep. 1,” a claim which was strongly condemned by other signatories of the nuclear deal including the EU, Russia and China and was mocked by Iranian senior officials.

Zarif reacted to US claims on returning unilateral sanctions against Iran by saying in a tweeted message, “Obviously they don’t understand law or UN. Maybe they can grasp this: You divorced the JCPOA in 2018. Your name on the marriage certificate is irrelevant.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on France to work with Beijing to safeguard the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Wang said that upholding multilateralism is the biggest consensus reached during his trip to Europe, according to the Chinese People’s Daily Online.

“Under such circumstances, China and France, as major responsible countries, should actively promote and practice multilateralism,” the Chinese daily quoted Wang as saying.

According to the daily, the Chinese foreign minister made a four-point proposal for China and France.

“First, China and France need to adhere to the concept of multilateralism…. Second, both sides should take multilateral actions…. Third, China and France should abide by multilateral agreements. Unilateralism, including irresponsible withdrawal from international organizations or violation of international agreements, is unpopular. China and France should strengthen coordination and cooperation on international affairs, and safeguard major outcomes of international agreements and multilateral diplomacy, such as the Iran nuclear deal. Fourth, the two sides should strengthen multilateral institutions. The United Nations is the most important platform for supporting and practicing multilateralism, and the two sides should support the United Nations in playing its due central role in international affairs,” the Chinese Daily said.

Wang made the remarks in a Saturday meeting with his French counterpart in Paris, amid heightened tensions between the US and other parties to the JCPOA. China and France both are signatories to the Iran nuclear deal.

A meeting of JCPOA will take place in Vienna on September 1. The Joint Commission will be chaired on behalf of EU High Representative Josep Borrell by EEAS Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of Iran, China, Russia, France, Germany, Russia, and the UK.

As part of an illegal push, the United States is trying to invoke the snapback mechanism in the JCPOA despite its withdrawal in May 2018 in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the nuclear deal.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A member of the Iranian Parliament announced on Monday that he has put forward a double-urgency bill on Iran’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Ali Khezrian made the announcement in a tweet while reacting to Trump’s announcement about triggering the snapback mechanism against Iran, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

US failed at the United Nations Security Council to approve its resolution on extending an expiring arms embargo against Iran upon the JCPOA. Without being reinstated by the UNSC, the sanctions are set to be expired in October.

The UN Security Council on Friday resoundingly defeated the US resolution, leaving it far short of the minimum nine “yes” votes required for adoption. Eleven members abstained, including France, Germany and Britain, while the US and the Dominican Republic were the only yes votes. China and Russia strongly opposed the resolution, but didn’t need to use their vetoes.

“The US administration, one of the violators of the JCPOA, is to trigger the snapback mechanism. While remaining in the JCPOA in case of returning the UNSC resolutions will bring no more benefits for Iran, I put forward the double-urgency bill on ‘Iran’s automatic withdrawal from the JCPOA in case of activation of the snapback mechanism’,” Khezrian posted on his Twitter.

Iran can quit the JCPOA based on Paragraph 36 of the nuclear deal which reads: “If Iran believed that any or all of the E3/EU+3 were not meeting their commitments under this JCPOA, Iran could refer the issue to the Joint Commission for resolution; …If the issue still has not been resolved to the satisfaction of the complaining participant, and if the complaining participant deems the issue to constitute significant non-performance, then that participant could treat the unresolved issue as grounds to cease performing its commitments under this JCPOA in whole or in part and/or notify the UN Security Council that it believes the issue constitutes significant non-performance.“

US President Trump has said the United States will try to trigger a “snapback” of sanctions on Iran at the United Nations next week.

“We’ll be doing a snapback,” Trump told reporters on August 15, the day after the UN Security Council rejected a US-sponsored resolution to extend an arms embargo on Iran. “You’ll be watching it next week.”

However, Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted that the US claim of its ability to trigger the snapback mechanism of the JCPOA is baseless.

“@AmbJohnBolton has repeated today what he said on May 8, 2018, while National Security Advisor in the Trump administration,” Zarif tweeted early on August 17, referring to an Op-ed by former US National Security Advisor John Bolton who notes that JCPOA supporters are ‘right’ about the fact that “Washington has no standing to invoke its [JCPOA’s] provisions” since it has withdrawn from the deal.

Iran and other signatories of the deal note that Washington cannot legally do so as it has officially ‘ceased participation’ in the deal in May 2018 and has not attended the sessions of the JCPOA Commission afterward.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a gathering in Beijing on Monday that the failure of the US resolution “again showed that unilateralism has no popular support, and hegemonic behavior will not succeed”.

The United States needed to end its unilateral sanctions and adopt a rational attitude, returning to the “correct path” of respecting the Iran nuclear agreement and Security Council decisions, Zhao added.
