One galaxy is close enough that gravitational interaction is triggering star formation in NGC 3430, visible as bright blue patches near but outside the galaxy’s main spiral structure, Phys.org reported.

This spiral galaxy features a bright core from which a pinwheel array of arms radiates outward.

Dark dust lanes and bright star-forming regions accentuate these spiral arms.

Astronomer Edwin Hubble used NGC 3430 to help define his classification of galaxies, which he outlined in a 1926 paper categorizing 400 galaxies by their appearance as either spiral, barred spiral, lenticular, elliptical, or irregular.

This classification system has had a lasting impact, with modern detailed schemes still based on Hubble’s work.

NGC 3430 is classified as an SAc galaxy, a spiral without a central bar, featuring open, clearly defined arms.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the descent module should separate from the main vehicle and begin landing in the Apollo crater, located on the far side of our moon from Earth.

The sun has already begun to rise above this geological structure on May 28. Therefore, the landing will be carried out in good visibility conditions, despite the fact that in the flight control center in China it will be Sunday morning on June 2.

If everything goes well, then immediately after landing, the module will begin checking all its systems. After that, its main task will begin: drilling and selecting materials from the surface of the Moon. It is expected that Chang’e-6 will be able to take them up to 2 kg.

In general, it is planned that the lander will stay on the far side of the Moon for 48 hours. After that, the process of its return to Earth will begin, along with the collected samples. The module will take off from the surface and dock again with the main part of the mission. It is expected that this will take up to two more days. After that, the return home will begin.

The main feature of the Chang’e-6 mission is not even that it should land on the far side of the Moon, but that it should happen on the territory of South Pole-Aitken basin. It is one of the largest geological structures of impact origin in the Solar System. It was formed billions of years ago as a result of a collision with some large body.

Scientists hope that the collected samples will help solve one of the biggest mysteries of the Moon – the asymmetry of its hemispheres. If the one that is clearly visible from Earth contains a large number of seas, then there are almost none on the opposite side. The elemental and mineral composition of the surface differs even more.

Scientists suspect that the reason for all this is volcanic activity, which began as a result of the impact that formed the South Pole-Aitken basin. And the samples that Chang ‘e-6 will deliver to Earth should help to understand this issue.

In addition, there are several other scientific instruments on board the lander. These are the NILS negatively charged ion detector, developed by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, and the French DORN gas detection device. In addition, there is an Italian laser beam reflector and a small rover on board.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Hassan Salarieh, the head of the Iranian Space Agency, has emphasized the country’s determination to develop space technology.

The Iranian Space Agency launched a satellite called “Khayyam” with a wide range of environmental functions at 10:22 local time on Tuesday. It was put into orbit by a Russian Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur space station in Kazakhstan.

In the past years, the country has made good achievements in the fields of remote sensing, and in order to operationalize the discovered knowledge, we needed to have a high-tech satellite, Salarieh said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Iran’s space industry has acquired the technical knowledge of manufacturing satellites with 5 to 10 meters resolution. So, the Khayyam satellite was ordered to be built by a Russian company, he said, adding, the satellite reached the stage of construction based on the parameters determined by Iran and also under our supervision.

“Improving productivity in the agriculture sector, surveying water resources, managing natural disasters, confronting deforestation, monitoring border areas and mining explorations are among the main objectives of the satellite.

In order to receive the data of this satellite, in addition to equipping the existing space stations, we have also prepared mobile stations in all parts of the country,” he noted.

Referring to Iran’s recent cooperation with Russia to access remote-sensing satellites, Salarieh stated that Iran’s space industry has started indigenization of this industry in the last 2 decades and has acquired the technical knowledge of manufacturing satellites with 5 to 10 meters resolution.

“We will continue this path and in the coming years, domestically produce, launch, and orbit satellites of higher resolution, to meet the country’s needs,” he added.

Noting that the “Khayyam” satellite was designed in the early-2000s by space researchers according to the needs of the day, Salarieh said that the researchers showed that a satellite with an accuracy of one meter was needed, which required a period of one to two years to be produced.

After conducting preliminary studies and implementing the conceptual design of the “Khayyam” satellite, the technical specifications of the satellite were determined, he added.

To order a satellite, it is necessary to determine parameters such as regulations, telecommunication systems, communication, and sensing systems in different peaks, as well as controlling the condition and stability of the satellite, he explained.

After ordering this to the Russian company, the project monitoring procedures were carried out in different departments as well as various tests, and finally, the satellite was delivered to Iran and placed in a 500 km orbit.

Referring to the cost of the Khayyam satellite, Salarieh explained that according to the weight, spectrum, and accuracy, the price of remote-sensing satellites is different, and this project is estimated to cost around $40 million.

Homegrown satellites

Iran launched its first satellite, called Omid (literally meaning hope), in 2009. Rasad (literally meaning observation) satellite was also sent into orbit in 2011.

In 2012, Iran successfully put its third domestically manufactured satellite, named Navid (literally meaning promise), into orbit.

The first and most advanced homegrown remote-sensing satellite is Pars-1, which has been designed and constructed by the researchers of the Iranian Space Research Center.

Pars-1 is supposed to take pictures of all parts of the country using a high-resolution 15-meter-camera and send its photos from a 500-kilometer distance to the earth stations using a high-powered telecommunication transceiver.

According to previous reports, the Iranian Space Agency has plans to launch a number of satellites including Pars-1, Pars-2, Zafar-2, and Nahid-2.

In February, the Iranian Space Agency announced that the Kosar satellite, designed and launched by 8 technological companies, was scheduled to be in a 500-kilometer orbit by the current [Iranian calendar] year (which began on March 21).

Iran ranks 11th in space science worldwide

Iran is among the 10 countries with knowledge of space technology and is the 11th country in the world in terms of space science and the leading country in the region.

Iran’s global ranking in space technology has improved from 95 in 1996 to 11 in 2017.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The sixth Iranian house of innovation and technology will be launched in Iraqi Kurdistan, ISNA reported on Wednesday.

Exporting technological products of Iranian knowledge-based companies is one of the important and key programs of the vice presidency for science and technology, and in this regard, the Iranian houses of innovation have been set up in several countries to develop the global market for knowledge-based products.

These centers have already been set up in countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Syria, Kenya, and Armenia.

By supporting innovative ideas, and holding technological and innovative events, the centers will be a platform for the development and promotion of Iranian knowledge-based companies, startups, and creative industries.

The centers are mainly formed with the investment and support of the private sector to provide the necessary infrastructure for their exports through the innovation houses.

These centers have already been set up in countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Syria, Kenya, and Armenia. In this regard, the Iranian house of innovation and technology will be inaugurated from July 3 to 6, in Sulaimaniyah, Iraq.

The three business districts of “Kurdistan, Baghdad, and Basra” are high-capacity areas for exporting Iranian knowledge-based and creative products. Iraq is a country that has a high potential to receive Iranian products and has sufficient financial resources to meet these needs by relying on the Iranian market.

Mehdi Ghalehnoei, an official with the vice presidency for science and technology, said in February that last year, knowledge-based companies gained about $800 million in revenue from export, and in the current year (started March 21), it seems to reach up to $2 billion.

Africa, neighboring countries, Southeast Asia and Eurasia are our export target priorities, and we hope to create Iranian innovation and technology in all these areas, he added.

Knowledge-based companies

Due to the necessity of Iran’s presence in the global technology markets and the high capability of knowledge-based and creative companies, the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology stepped into the field to pave the way for its presence in the global market.

To this end, it has developed and implemented programs, policies, and support packages related to the development of export, planning to attract foreign investment, eliciting the participation of Iranians abroad, and connecting domestic capabilities to the global market are among the actions taken in this regard.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei designated the current Iranian year as “The Year of Production: Knowledge-Based and Job-Creating”.

A plan for strengthening knowledge-based companies is on the agenda, raising hope for reducing obstacles on the path to development.

The Leader has called on all Iranians, including citizens and government officials, to work hard to boost knowledge-based production and create new jobs.

Today, the country’s knowledge-based ecosystem accounts for more than 3 percent of GDP. And the figure is projected to reach 5 percent, however, the main goal is to step toward a 10 percent share in GDP, Vice President for Science and Technology, Sourena Sattari told Fars on February 13.

The share of knowledge-based companies in the country’s economy has exceeded 9 quadrillion rials (about $34 billion), and since 2019, it has experienced a growth of more than 450 percent, he stated.

There are currently 6,263 knowledge-based companies operating in the country, offering advanced products and services in various fields of technology to domestic and foreign markets, and some of them have entered international markets, Siavash Maleki, deputy head of the Fund, stated.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Engineer Invents Device for Alarming Earthquake. An Iranian computer engineer has invented a device for alarming the approximate time and place of earthquake which can save the lives of people.

On the occasion of the National Day of Safety Against Earthquake and also devastating 2003 Bam Earthquake anniversary, Middle East Knowledge Management Institute held a press conference under the banner of “Futures Studies of Earthquake Crisis Management” where the Iranian engineer unveiled its invention of a device for detection and warning of the approximate time and place of the possible earthquake.

Farhad Samandari, the Iranian talent and engineer, addressing the participants in the presser delved into details of his invention and said he has patented his invention but he needs the government support for its launch. He said that this system of warning will be based on the animal senses, adding that snake and fish have strong senses of feeling the danger and any developments in the earth, and his system will function based on this sense and by implanting special sensors in snake and fish or any other animal which has strong sense of feeling the threats.

He went on to say that by the launch of a data center, it will get the signals from the certain animals with implanted sensors and then will transfer it to the crisis management headquarters for further actions.

He admitted that his invention and idea is waiting for financial support to be launched because such devices are necessary for the country which is located on the earthquake belt.

Meanwhile, addressing the presser, official in the public participation of Tehran City Council Mr. Talebinejad called for organizing participation of the people during the crisis like earthquake. He added that even the National Crisis Management Headquarters is shocked and loses its control during the earthquake. He said we are in the 21th Century and we cannot stick to the old traditional public participation and the country needs a modern and organized way of public participation during the crisis. He reiterated that five factors of culture, body, logistic, norms and determination of the executor of the program are important in the public participation and as long as this participation is not organized, all efforts will be in vain.

Then Mr. Maziar Mir, for his part, talked about the principles of the crisis management and said since the country is located on the earthquake belt, the education is very important for such critical time. He admitted that education in this regard is very weak in the country and hailed Iranian scientists like Mr. Samandari who sacrifice themselves for the success of the country. He then called for education and deployment of crisis management offices in any part of the country.

Dr. Zolfaghari was the other speaker in this presser who called for supporting the knowledge-based and start-ups companies for tackling this issue and preparing the country for any disaster.

Majlis lawmaker Mr. Nikzad also criticized the bodies which are in charge of managing crisis and called for improvement of their performance. He went on to say that since 2003 that Bam earthquake happened and killed thousands of people, one can still see rubbles and wreckage of that disaster in the city. By the way he said people of Bam despite all problems are ready to host tourists from any part of the country.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Energy Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian inaugurated the country’s first solar cell factory in Khomein county, in central Markazi province, in a ceremony on Thursday.

The pilot 150-megawatt (MW) plant has been set up by the Iranian experts relying on domestic knowledge and technology.

Addressing the press on the sidelines of the mentioned inauguration ceremony, the minister said depending on the capacity of the country, it is possible to increase these units.

Referring to the 13th government’s serious plan for the development of renewable power plants, the official announced that the generation of 10,000 MW of electricity from solar farms of the country in a period of four years has been targeted.

Mehrabian also mentioned the government’s support for investors in the industrial and renewable energy sectors, and said: “Next year’s budget bill with a development approach envisages several clauses in support of renewable energy, which is unprecedented.”

It is expected that with the support of the parliament and the approval of this bill, a great change will take place in the country, he underlined.

“In the past, solar panels were produced in the country and today solar cells are produced in Khomein”, he added.

“The solar cell production line in Khomein was put into operation today with an annual production capacity of solar panels for the generation of 150 MW of electricity, and this unit has planned to produce solar panels for the generation of 1,500 MW”, the minister further informed.

Renewables, including hydropower, account for about seven percent of the country’s total energy generation, versus natural gas’ 90 percent share.

Overall, in the next four years, Iran is aiming for a 5,000 MW increase in renewable capacity to meet growing domestic demand and expand its presence in the regional electricity market.

According to Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (known as SATBA), the number of small-scale solar power plants across the country which are used by households or small industries is increasing noticeably as Iranian households and small industries are embracing the new technology with open arms and investors also seem eager for more contribution in this area.

Iran is also planning on expanding its presence in the region’s renewable energy market.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran is going ahead with the launch of three satellites into orbit in line with a national plan to develop the space industry over the last 10 years.

In the first meeting of the Supreme Council of Space on Friday, President Ebrahim Raisi has highlighted the importance of developing the national space industry, calling on the related organizations to join hands in this regard.

Raisi stressed the low-cost indigenization of the space industry and said that “All sectors active in this industry should work together, use each other’s experiences and avoid parallel work, to realize the order of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in order to launch a satellite into an orbit of 36,000 km.

Acceleration of the space arena, strengthening synergy and all elements of industry actors and maximum attention to space diplomacy, achieving the goals of the country’s space programs as much as possible, providing the resources needed to accelerate the space industry, was the most important issued discussed in the meeting.

According to the activities of the Space Research Institute, the Space Agency, and the Ministry of Communications, there is no concern in the satellite injection directly by the launcher and valuable steps have been taken in this regard, but to achieve orbits higher than Leo, which eventually reaches Geo, the transition block can play a decisive role.

Altitude up to 2,000 km is called the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). From 2,000 kilometers to 35,786 kilometers are called the geosynchronous orbit (GEO).

The first and most advanced remote-sensing satellite is Pars-1 satellite, which has been designed and constructed by the researchers of the Iranian Space Research Center.

According to the Ministry of Communications, there are shortcuts to reach the 36,000-kilometer circuit, such as the use of orbital transmission systems. Saman orbital transfer system is ready for initial tests, which can transfer a 100-kilogram satellite from the park orbit with a height of 400 kilometers to an elliptical orbit of 700 kilometers and then to 10,000, 21,000, and 36,000 kilometers.
