Aarau midfielder Markus Neumayr has criticized his former teammates in Iranian football team Esteghlal.
The German midfielder joined Swiss football club Aarau in the January transfer window.
The 32-year-old player joined Iran’s Esteghlal in July 2018 on a two-year contract but was released by the team on Dec. 16.
These days the German midfielder has been revealing the obstacle he faced during his stay in Iran.
“They (Esteghlal players) weren’t happy with my presence in the training. No greetings, no talks and at times they didn’t even pass the ball to me. They were jealous of me,” Neumayer said in an interview with aargauerzeitung.ch.
Neumayer’s experience wasn’t all negative in Iran, he also talked about his wonderful times in the country.
“The most impressive experience I had as a footballer in Iran was to play before 90,000 spectators.”
The German footballer also enjoyed the attention he received from the public on the road at first. “As soon as I got out of the hotel, I was recognized by the fans and admirers who blocked my way. Once I went to a restaurant where the owner had to close his eatery for a few hours so I could eat in peace,” the German footballer added.
