Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami attended the inauguration ceremony for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas on Thursday.
Maduro, who first came to power as president in 2013, was sworn in for a second term in office on Thursday.
Hatami was accompanied by a high ranking delegation.
The defense minister also held a meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, discussing international developments.
Hatami said relations between Iran and Bolivia are friendly which benefits revolutionary and independent countries.
For his part, Morales attached great importance to expansion of ties with Iran and praised Tehran’s efforts in fighting terrorism.
Hatami also held a separate meeting with Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez and invited him to visit Iran.
Hatami meets Mauritanian president
Prior to his visit to Caracas, Hatami took a trip to the African country of Mauritania and met with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
The defense minister called for expansion of ties and praised Mauritania’s support for Palestinians.
