Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi has ordered an investigation into the report of data-hijacking from encrypted messenger app Telegram by Iran’s Telecommunication Company on Monday.
Jahromi confirmed the reports in a Tweet on Monday night, saying that “in the event of an error, whether inadvertent or intentional, the Telecommunication Company of Iran will be severely penalized.” An investigation is underway.
According to the reports I have received so far, Jahromi confirmed, Iran Telecommunication Company has been involved in the changes in the network topology in Shiraz and Bushehr at 4-6 o’clock on Monday morning.
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has been responsible for investigating the issue, he added.
