Iran is the first choice for many Azerbaijani patients who choose the country to receive relatively cheaper but high quality treatment.
The first choice for middle class Azerbaijani people to receive treatment for serious diseases is Iranian hospitals and doctors. The high quality of medical services, the low treatment expenses, shorter distance, and the close cultural and linguistic ties between the two nations bring a lot of patients from this northern neighbor to major Iranian border cities such as Tabriz, Ardebil, or even the capital Tehran.
According to official statistics, the peak of tourist travel from Azerbaijan Republic to Iran was in 2015-16, during which over one million Azerbaijani nationals visited Iran. Nearly 50 to 60 percent of these travels took place for the purpose of receiving treatment.
A prominent Azerbaijani doctor, Prof. Adil Kaibullah, praised the high quality of Iranian produced medicine as one of the major advantages of receiving treatment in Iran.
According to him, many Azerbaijani citizens buy Iranian medicine for personal use due to their reasonable price and high quality.
