TEHRAN– Ali Hashemi from Iran claimed a gold medal at the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships at the Anaheim Convention Center early Tuesday.
In the men’s 105kg event, Hashemi came out on top with 404kg after winning the snatch with 183kg and finishing third in the clean and jerk with 221kg.
Hashemi became the first world champion from his country in the category.
Mohammadreza Barari is Iran’s only other medalist in the men’s 105kg, claiming bronze in the clean and jerk in 2013.
Latvian Arturs Plesnieks won the silver medal with 402kg and bronze medal went to Uzbekistan’s Ivan Efremov with 399kg.
Sohrab Moradi had already won Iran’s first gold medal in the 94kg.
