Pakistan welcomes Iran’s offer of mediation with Afghanistan
TEHRAN (Iran News) “Iran is a brotherly, friendly country. Pakistan is always in favor of finding peaceful resolutions of issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and we appreciate the offer of mediation of our brotherly country, Iran,” the daily Dawn quoted Tahir Hussain Andrabi as saying on Monday.
“We believe that Iran can play an important role. We would not shy away from any mediatory role by Iran. Mediations are always welcome,” Andrabi said, adding that Pakistan had a “very strong case”.
Recently Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had offered any assistance in helping to resolve the remaining differences and deescalate tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government.
However, the statement came as Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, arrived in Islamabad, along with a delegation, to participate in the 13th round of bilateral political consultations between the two neighboring countries. He is also scheduled to meet with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister.
Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, will lead her country’s delegation in the meeting with Takht-Ravanchi and his team.
