Iran, Russia think tanks call for strengthening elite relations
TEHRAN (Iran News) A joint roundtable was held between Iran’s Institute for Political and International Studies and Russia’s Institute of CIS Countries in Moscow on Saturday night, where the two sides emphasized the necessity of strengthening elite cooperation between both nations.
According to the Iranian Embassy in Moscow, the meeting was attended by head of the Iranian center Saeed Khatibzadeh, and director of the Russian institute Konstantin Zatulin. It highlighted areas of cooperation following the implementation of the comprehensive strategic cooperation document between Iran and Russia.
Khatibzadeh provided an analysis of the current international and regional conditions, discussing the requirements for enhancing relations between Iran, Russia, and countries in the Global South.
During the meeting, experts from both nations engaged in extensive discussions on a wide range of issues.
This meeting coincided with Khatibzadeh’s visit to Moscow to sign several cooperation agreements. He previously visited the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INION RAN), where he signed a memorandum of understanding with the institute.
On January 17, 2025, during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow, the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Iran and Russia was signed in the Kremlin. Following the legal approval of this treaty by both countries’ parliaments, the foreign ministries of Iran and Russia announced its official implementation on October 2, 2025.
