IRISL to Repeat Last Year’s Record for Transporting Goods
Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line Group (IRISL) says the group intends to repeat and even improve last year’s record of transporting goods.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line Group (IRISL) says the group intends to repeat and even improve last year’s record of transporting goods.

Speaking on the occasion of World Maritime Day (September 28), Mr. Mohammad Reza Modarres Khiabani said that seafarers as the soldiers of the sacred Islamic Republic of Iran establishment have bravely stood and resisted against the economic war of the enemies and helped national economy to continue its life.

Emphasizing the pick-up and boom for the IRISL in the past year and especially for the sea transportation, he said that last year the Islamic Republic of Iran’s shipping fleet transported over 719,000 TEU containers which showed 69% growth comparing to the previous year while the growth in transportation of bulk cargo was 28%.

Modarres Khiabani who was speaking in the annual general assembly of the group said that the IRISL has moved over 26.7m tons of cargo last year which shows 41% growth comparing to the preceding year and it was a new record set by the group.

He went on to say that of the mentioned amount of the transported goods, over 10.3m tons belonged to exporting goods and it was also 9% growth comparing to the preceding year, and transportation of 8.6m tons belonged to the imported goods and it also registered 74% growth comparing the preceding year.

He noted that the rial revenues of the group was 382,000b rials  as the operational revenues grew 151% comparing to the preceding year and it was a historic record, and it is expected this trend of success continues this year and the historic record would be repeated and improved this year.

He noted that the dollar revenues of the group this year was $1.6b while the figure was $770m in the preceding year, reiterating that the net forex profit of the group was $470m last year while it was only $29m in the preceding year and it shows a considerable growth.

Modarres Khiabani added that the profit margin of the group was 28% in the last fiscal year and the group has been able to settle some of its past dues.

He then reiterated that the group is keen to expand its fleet and for this reason it has ordered building of two container ro-ro ships as well as two multi-functional vessels.
