TEHRAN (Iran News) – Vice-President and Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Trade-Industrial and Special Economic Zones says Iran and Qatar have agreed to increase their weekly direct flights between the two countries by 400, adding that five cruise ships will also transfer passengers between Kish Island of Iran and Qatar.
Saeed Mohammad in an interview explained details of the infrastructures on Kish Free Zone for supporting 2022 Soccer World Cup and revealed the conditions of Qataris for accepting Iranian travel agencies.
Touching upon the actions taken in two free zones of Kish and Qeshm for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, he said that Iran had four years to prepare cities and areas for supporting the World Cup but no action has been taken in this period.
He went on to say that since last October, they pursued actions for preparing free zones close to Qatar and recently a Qatari delegation visited infrastructures and capacities of this area and expressed their satisfaction and they reiterated Kish is similar to Qatar and both sides reached good agreements on support of tourists and World Cup fans.
Mohammad went on to say that in this short period, the required infrastructures on Kish Island were completed, adding that although it was not an easy job, the number of five-star hotels has increased and 10,000 beds of five-star hotels will be allocated to the passengers.
He reiterated five football pitches and gyms will be completed in the next three months. He noted that the capacity of Kish terminal has been increased and the existing Kish Airport terminal is ready for transfer of 5.1m passengers and the new terminal with capacity of 6m passengers will come on stream in 6 months.
He also announced agreement between Iran and Qatar to increase their daily direct flights to 400 per week and Qatar Airways and Kish Air will cooperate.
He also said that two cruise ships have been provided for the shuttle of passengers between Kish and Qatar and three more will be added till the World Cup kicks off.
Mohammad also urged Iranian travel agencies which are interested to operate during the World Cup to announce readiness and Qataris after reviewing the quality and conditions of the agencies will approve the qualified ones to operate during the World Cup.
