TEHRAN – Tehran football giants Persepolis and Esteghlal emerged victorious over their opponents in Iran Professional League (IPL) on Tuesday.
Persepolis defeated Saipa 2-0 in Tehran’s Takhtii Stadium.
Hossein Kanaanizadega scored an own goal in 20th minute and Persepolis top goalscorer Ali Alipour found the back of the net in the 25th minute.
Esteghlal also earned its first victory in IPL under leadership of newly-appointed coach Winfried Schaefer.
The Blues defeated Naft Tehran 2-0 at the Azadi Stadium.
Farid Mohammadizadeh scored an own goal 10 minutes into the second half and Jaber Ansari chipped the ball past over Naft goalkeeper’s head in the 65th minute.
Furthermore, Sepahan suffered a late defeat to Paykan in Isfahan, Tractor Sazi and Zob Ahan shared the spoils and Padided was held to a 2-2 draw by Foolad.
Persepolis is top of the table with 23 points, followed by Paykan and Pars Jonoubi Jam.
