Iran, Eurasia Up Trade Exchanges by 14%

TEHRAN – Trade exchanges between Iran and Eurasia have increased by 14 percent from October 27, 2019, to June 19, 2020, compared to last year’s corresponding period, Iran’s Trade Development Organization reported on Sunday.
The report added that the exchange has been increased despite the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the drop in trade exchanges in the world.
The total export of Iran to Eurasia accounts for over $681 million, compared to the same period of last year that shows a 17% increase, the report noted.
On the other hand, the total imports accounts for over a billion and 736 million dollars, compared to the similar period of the year that illustrates 13% of growth, it further noted.
According to the report, the bilateral trade between Iran and Eurasia has reached $2417m which shows 14 percent growth comparing to the previous year.
Despite the pandemic, both sides have tried to keep their trade exchange balanced.
By the way Iran’s imports from Eurasia since the implementation of the agreement have declined by 15 percent comparing to the preceding year.
Accordingly, Iran’s exports to Eurasia have grown by 63 percent and the growth in the tariff discounted goods has been 70 percent.
Meanwhile director general of transit department of Iran’s Customs Administration said that for the first time two trucks have been dispatched from Shahid Rajaee customs checkpoint to Kyrgyzstan via Afghanistan and Tajikistan route.
Meanwhile Irna reported Iran’s West Azarbaijan Province enjoys over 900 km of common border with three neighboring countries that Turkey is the best opportunity for Iran to provide exports to Europe in a safe condition owing to its significant role in European economic exchanges and the railway line of Maku Free Zone.
IRNA quoted Maku Free Zone Deputy Head for Logistics and Transportation Organization Mehdi Safari Moghaddam as saying that the preliminary studies of railway connection of Tabriz to Kars in Turkey are in the final stages that construction operations for the expansion of the border trade using the railway route will be done after it is done.
He added that the railway is designed in the transit route of China and Europe for a length of 200 kilometers through an electric power in 2 lines with a speed of 160 km/h. It has been estimated to allocate 30,000 billion rials of credit for the project.
Maku’s Member of Parliament Mohammad Alipour characterized Iran as the world economic highway, and said that the establishment of a railway line to turkey in this region can be a special economic potential.
Iran has three approved borders with Turkey that all of them are located in West Azarbaijan Province.
