TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf denounced the latest round of American coercive economic measures against Syria, saying the new sanctions indicate Washington’s failure to push ahead with its military plots against the Arab country.
“Enemies of Syria, Iran and the resistance axis were desperate because of their failure in their terrorist and military war against Syria, so they moved to impose economic and coercive unilateral sanctions, and this is evidence to their failure in their plots,” Iranian Parliament Speaker said on Monday in a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmoud, SANA reported.
Syria has always been and will remain on the front line of the resistance axis, he added, reaffirming Iran’s continued support for the Arab country.
For his part, Mahmoud congratulated Qalibaf on his election as the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stressing the importance of enhanced ties between the two nations, in the field economy in particular.
Recently, the US State Department and the Treasury said 39 Syrian individuals, including President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, had been designated for a load of new economic and travel sanctions.
The law, known as the Caesar Act, places anyone who does business with the 39 named individuals and government entities in the crosshairs of the US Treasury.
