TEHRAN (Iran News) – Four Greco-Roman wrestlers from Iran claimed medals in Day One of the Asian Wrestling Championships on Tuesday.
Pouya Nasserpour defeated Jasurbek Ortikboef from Uzbekistan 8-0 in the 55kg weight category and won a gold medal.
Meysam Dalkhani was defeated against Yernur Fidakhmetov from Kazakhstan 2-0 in the 63kg bronze medal match.
In the 77kg, Pejman Poshtam lost to Tamerlan Shadukayev from Kazakhstan 10-1 in the final and grabbed a silver.
Amin Mirzadeh earned a 9-0 win over Korean Minseok Kim in the 130kg final and seized Iran’s second gold.
The governing body of the sport, the United World Wrestling, has announced that this edition will be considered to determine rankings for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Iran has sent 10 wrestlers to the competition.
The event has a total of 30 weight classes, 10 each in Freestyle Men, Women, and Greco Roman.
Asian Wrestling Championships are being held in New Delhi, India from February 18 to 23.
