TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi rejected the interventionist statement from France authorities on the Islamic Republic’s space program, saying it is Tehran’s inherent right to develop science and technology.
In a statement on Tuesday, Mousavi also reiterated that the missile defense program in Iran has nothing to do with the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 because Iranian missiles are not designed to carry nuclear weapons.
His comments came after the Foreign Ministry of France condemned the recent launch of a satellite into space as a breach of obligations under the UN resolution on Iran nuclear and ballistic program.
“France condemns this launch, which employs ballistic missile technologies, in particular those used for intercontinental missiles,” the French ministry said in a statement.
Resolution 2231 calls on Iran “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”
Tehran insists its missile tests and rocket launches do not breach any UN resolution because they are solely for defense purposes and not designed to carry nuclear warheads.
