Judiciary Chief Hojatoleslam Seyed Ebrahim Raisi said the Islamic Republic’s officials will meet the killers of Lt. Gen Qassem Soleimani to bring them to justice.
Addressing a meeting of the Judiciary’s Supreme Council in Tehran on Monday, Raisi pointed to the effects of the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Soleimani on the latest regional events and said the martyr’s blood has encouraged freedom-seeking nations to stand against oppression.
“God willing, the legal and judicial issues regarding this crime will be pursued,” he said, adding, “In talks with the president of the Supreme Court of Iraq, it became clear that they have a great motivation to pursue this.”
“We will also follow up on (the issue) through international circles,” the Judiciary chief went on to say.
“Sooner or later we will meet the killers of Hajj Qassem not for negotiation but for trial and punishment,” the official stated.
“We will pursue the case via international bodies and we will meet the murderers of the martyred General for trying and punishing them for this horrible crime,” he added.
Raisi also said that since the crime has been committed by the U.S. in Iraq, the country’s authorities have pursued the case, and expressed the hope that the two countries’ judiciary departments would cooperate in the case.
General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport on Friday, January 3.
Meanwhile Raisi underscored commemoration of the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution by the people and officials, and called for depicting the achievements of the Islamic Revolution and injection of hope in the society through proper performance.
He went on to say that enemies are after creating despair and disappointment in the society and today only efficient performance by the executive bodies can create hope in the country.
He also blasted the enemies of the Islamic Revolution and the U.S. plan for the Middle East “Deal of the Century” and reiterated the deal is doomed to failure.
Raisi once again reiterated the message of the Islamic Revolution will not let any plot with new rhetoric and form set the region on fire.
