Iranian Insurance Companies Have No Obligation Regarding Ukraine Plane

Head of Central Insurance of Iran (CII) Gholamreza Soleimani says the company and other Iranian insurance companies are not responsible regarding the Ukrainian plan which was shot down in Tehran.

Speaking in a press conference, Soleimani said that Iranian insurance companies are only responsible to pay indemnity to Iranian planes and since the Ukrainian plane was not under insurance commitment of Iranian companies, Ukrainian insurance companies should deal with it.

He went on to say that since the plane has been shot down in Iran, the government would start talks with Ukrainian government over the damages for the plane and loss of the passengers.

He added that in case the government negotiators need consultation, the company will be available for helping them technically.

On the amount of the damages and payment to the passengers, he said that the rate of insurance for passengers is different in countries and currently he is not able to tell exactly the amount of loss and what is said in the media is just speculation.

Soleimani reiterated that the insurance for Iranian and foreign passengers is different and it should be calculated.

He added that every country has its own laws and there is no unified international standard in this regard and some part of it could be solved through dialogues.

Soleimani went on to say that the company has paid over 3b tomans of indemnity to the flood-hit victims and their families in Kerman.

He admitted that the indemnity has been paid to the victims while they had no insurance agreement with companies and the money is just gift.

On the recent floods in Sistan and Baluchestan Province and resulted damages, he said that the damages are under investigation and the company will compensate based on a certain system.

Soleimani also said that the company has decided to forgive fines for delay in third party insurance for vehicles on the occasion of the anniversary of the Islamic Republic. He added that the decision was made to encourage vehicle owners to insure their vehicles in order to avoid social ills and accidents without paying any fine.

He noted that currently there are over 22m vehicles in the country and almost 20m vehicles are under third party insurance.
