TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has stressed that only qualified candidates should run for the next parliamentary elections.

Teaching a class of advanced Islamic Jurisprudence (kharej–e Fiqh) this morning, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, criticized the enrollment of individuals who are not qualified for representing the people, stressing that only qualified individuals should enroll for the next parliamentary elections, which are going to be held early next year.

The Leader invoked several Hadiths from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to stress the need for necessary skills and qualifications that lawmakers need to obtain.

Today the registration for parliament candidates has begun. Guardian Council validates the qualified candidates to run for the upcoming election.

Earlier this week, Majlis Spokesman, Ali Larijani declared he will not run for re-election.

According to estimates, some 7,000 individuals will register across the country, said Deputy Interior Minister Jamal Aref on Saturday. Reformists, Principalists, and independents will probably constitute 26%, 33%, and 40% of the whole candidates respectively, he said in a press conference.

Also, midterm elections of the Assembly of Experts will be held in five provinces of Tehran (3 representatives), North Khorasan (1 rep.), Khorasan Razavi (1 rep.), Qom (1 rep.), and Fars (1 rep.) concurrent with the parliamentary election.

The next round of the country’s parliamentary elections will be held in February 2020.
