Iran-Russia Trade to Touch $2b by Mid-March

TEHRAN – Head of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce says the chamber expects the total trade volume between Iran and Russia to touch $2b by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19).
Hadi Tizhoush-Taban in an interview with Eghtesadonline said that the bilateral trade volume of Iran and Russia stood at $1.7b in last Iranian calendar year while Iran’s imports were around $1.2b and instead Russia imported goods worth $533m from Iran.
He further said that while the year has not ended yet, the trade volume between both states have been less than $2b but the chamber believes if the infrastructures are prepared, the total trade volume with Russia will hit $2b by the yearend and it will indicate 17.5 percent growth comparing to the preceding year.
Tizhoush-Taban pointed to the huge potentials of Russia for developing trade relations, adding that Russia imports $40b annually and Iran can have good share of Russia’s market and the current agreement with Eurasian Union states is a good opportunity for boosting exports to those countries but before anything, the government should ease the way and prepare necessary infrastructures.
He called the regulation of forex undertaking as a hurdle for exporters, adding that the regulation has minimized the chance of exports of many exporters especially in the agro field.
He noted that at the time the country faces decline in oil revenues, export is considered a vital issue for the country and hurdles in way of exporters should be lifted.
