Michel Duclos, the Director General of France’s ADI, who is visiting Tehran was received by Kamal Kharrazi, the former Iranian FM, on Monday in Tehran.
“Trump’s words do not fit any logic or reason and that’s why they have been opposed by most of the leaders of the world,” reiterated Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi, the Head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.
The former Iranian foreign minister who chaired Iran’s diplomacy between 1997 and 2005, made the remarks in reference to the policies undertaken by new US president, during the meeting with Michel Duclos, the Director General of France’s the Académie Diplomatique Internationale (ADI).
“When a country begins to pursue a wrong policy, naturally some new crises come up cross the globe, so it means that having money and military might is not enough but reason is also needed,” he criticized Trump for rolling out policies which according to some analysts have made the world more turbulent.
“Meanwhile it is necessary to discuss some strategic issues and more talks are needed for reaching mutual understanding,” he said after welcoming the proposal of developing bilateral relations between Iran and France.
“There are adequate mechanisms in Geneva and Astana talks and they are working out,” said the Iranian veteran diplomat dismissing French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal for creating new mechanisms for Syrian talks. The Iranian official reasoned that for introducing a new mechanism there should be a convincing justification.
“However, we welcome the contributions and cooperation of the French in the framework of Astana talks because the Astana talks have yielded good results so far and contributed to establishment of peace and security in Syria,” recounted Mr. Kharrazi.
“The French know that without Iran’s active contribution there would be no solution for regional issues,” said the French academician and diplomat for his part.
Mr. Duclos underlined that the current state of affairs in the region necessitates to keep Assad government in place and eradicate terrorists. “Although we formerly held different views about Syria and what went on in there, but disagreements should not bar us from cooperating,” said the French foreign relations expert.
