Iranian Parliament’s General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal demonstrates that US does not hold any commitment to international obligations.
Speaking in a meeting with Swiss deputy Foreign Minister Pascale Baeriswyl on Friday, Amir-Abdollahian criticized US behavior, saying “the Islamic Republic of Iran is looking forward to a proper response on behalf of Europe to US violation of nuclear deal.” Iranian Parliament carefully observes Europe’s decision and action at this stage, he added.
On regional issues, he said Tehran has always supported political solution to Syrian and Yemeni crises and opposes military intervention of US and its allies, which threatens regional stability and security.
Denouncing the West’s and human rights advocates’ silence on grave and systematic human rights violations in Yemen and Bahrain, Amir-Abdollahian said “the continuation of Saudi Arabia’s war and the aggression of against Yemen, acute humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the organized, systematic crackdown on and violation of human rights in Bahrain, has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in important parts of the region. “
Pascale Baeriswyl, for her part, expressed satisfaction with her visit to Iran, saying “the developments in the region, especially the destruction of ISIL in Syria and Iraq indicates the important role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in maintaining peace and stability in the region.”
She pointed to the recent meeting of the three European signatories of JCPOA in Brussels, and said “Switzerland, the European Union and, in particular, the Troika, have agreed on the need for the continuation of the international agreement.”
“Europe urges Iran to remain committed to JCPOA and persists in negotiations as the best way to make a decision and find a solution to the problem,” she added.
Regretting the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen since the outbreak of the crisis, she noted that “Switzerland has repeatedly provided its humanitarian assistance to the country, hoping to end the crisis through negotiations, with the help of countries, including Iran.
