TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a message released on Wednesday, congratulated the country’s historic record in the 14th edition of World Wushu Championships in Russia.

Iranian sanda practitioners made history, winning the World Wushu Championships for the first time.

The Iranian fighters claimed seven gold medals and one silver in the competition.

China became runner-up with seven gold medals and one silver. Host Russia finished in third place after winning two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

China had won 13 times out of 14 editions.

In his message, President Rouhani lauded the victory as “valuble”.

The president further wished continuation of the achievements of the Iranian youth in all sport contests.

The 14th World Wushu Championships (WWC) took place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 in Kazan City. The tournament brought together approximately 860 competitors from 57 countries.
