Iran finished in second place at the third edition of the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday.

Young Japanese Para athletes came first, winning 43 gold medals, 29 silvers and 26 bronzes. The Japanese delegation won 98 medals in total.

Iran became runners-up for a total of 118 medals, including 39 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze medals.

China completed the podium, winning 27 gold, nine silver and five bronze medals for a total of 41 medals.

Hosts the UAE finished 10th in the event, capturing 17 medals (nine golds, five silver, three bronze).

Japan and Iran are the two largest teams at the Games with 89 and 114 athletes respectively. Japan have shown strong performances particularly in swimming, where the country owns 14 gold medals. Iran have shown their strength however in athletics and powerlifting.

These are the third Asian Youth Para Games and have had the largest number of athletes (800) from 30 countries taking part in the largest number of sports with seven.
